Surprise Me Mr. Davis

Surprise Me Mr. Davis
Surprise Me Mr. Davis - Surprise Me Mr. Davis
(CD) Frogville FV-002, 2004

Last winter, when Nathan Moore was visiting The Slip in Boston, the largest snow storm since '78 hit. They were all trapped. With little more than food from the convenience store on the corner to survive on, they began playing with the new recording software on the Barr's home computer. "Surprise me", became a catch phrase that week whenever someone would get that glimmer in the eye and disappear into the headphones. If anyone asked, "what should I play," the ineveitable answer was "Surprise me!" Toward the end of the week, Nathan received a message on his cell phone from the enchanting voice of a sweet older lady with a thick accent saying, "O' you're having fun with that recording! Well I guess you guys are snowed in, I bet you're drinking a lot of hot chocolate....have a nice day." It was a wrong number. She had called someone named Mister Davis.

One winter, when Nathan Moore was visiting avante rock band, The Slip, in Boston, the largest snow storm since '78 hit. They were all trapped. "Surprise me," became a catch phrase that week whenever someone would get that glimmer in the eye and disappear into the headphones. Frogville was lucky enough to put out the very first SURPRISE ME MR DAVIS experimental album. The second SMMD project was recorded on their dime at Breakglass studios up in Montreal and captured some magical performances over a 3 day tracking/ 1 day mixing session on 2" 16 track down to 1/2" analog tape and wanted it to come out on vinyl only, that never quite happened but several tracks made it onto a EP entitled "Only In Montreal" which came out in a Limited Edition put out through the Slip's merchandise and count yourself lucky if you have one. Currently the band has so much new material, they are going back into the studio (2008) and plan on shopping the new project to the majors/mini majors market, and as they are free agents under no contract, we wish them the best of luck; we think Surprise Me Mr Davis is a cross between the Beatles and the Stones with a completely modern take, and when the world catches on they will be HUGE!

Both albums are currently Out Of Print, but the first album entitled "Surprise Me Mr Davis" IS available by digital download through iTunes, Rhapsody and all the major digital outlets.

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
