Press Release :
Shawn Lee conjures up some important musical forms. His new album 'Soul Visa' has all the hallmarks of Lee's auteur approach to his music. he has produced, mixed, sang & played every instrument on the album. Both rich in harmony and dynamic in scope, Lee commits himself to the classic three minute pop song. Inspired by the songwriting geniuses of Bacharach and David, Brian Wilson and Jimmy Webb, Shawn mixes it up musically but always keeps things soulful and melodic. It features a wealth of contemporary production techniques, inventive instrumentation and lush vocal harmonies. It's a place where the sounds of yesterday meet the sounds of today, skilfully constructing a conceptual bridge between the old school and the new. 'Soul Visa' has grabbed the attention of the Japanese and the French particularly, where Shawn is a highly regarded cult artist whose records are considered to be musical masterpieces. Shawn's music has found fans and supporters in such fellow artists as badly Drawn Boy, Zero 7, Coldcut and Vikter Duplaix to name just a few.
'Soul Visa' is a heartfelt, reflective album full of soulful, clever songs that you will play again and again.

More than a sum of his parts, he has also released an instrumental album this year to International acclaim entitled 'Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra'. Heavy on the funk and cinematic moods, Lee showcases his talents as a multi-instrumentalist and producer to fine effect. This is music for driving to, for lounge, or Tarantino's next movie! DJ's from Australia to San Francisco have been rocking the Ping Pong sound on the radio and it's got a big thumb's up from top producers worldwide.
2005 will see the release of vol.2 in the Ping Pong Orchestra series on Wet Coast label Ubiquity.

Originally from Wichita, Kansas and Los Angeles, Lee has been based in London for the last ten years. He has toured extensively across Europe and Japan spreading his gospel to the impassioned. As well as releasing a handful of solo albums in as many labels, Shawn is also an in demand singer, session musician, songwriter and producer. He has worked with a diverse range of artists from the most respected talents of the left field to some of the biggest names in pop. 2005 will see a clutch of new solo albums from the ubiquitous Mr Lee, there will also bee collaborations with the vanguard of Dance/Electronic producers from Tokyo to Paris to London. For those of you who read the fine print, you're sure to find Shawn Lee's name in the credits of hit singles from time to time but that my friend is another story!
