'Mi Swing Es Tropical' has been in huge demand since featuring on a recent worldwide iTunes advert. It was first released on a Shapes Compilation in 2006 and featured again on Shapes 07:02 in Nov 2007. Finally it is on a seven inch release.

This outstanding track was produced by Quantic and Nickodemus in Puerto Rico. Nickodemus had been recording there for a while and invited Quantic over when the pair met whilst DJing in Brooklyn. The result is this beautiful collaboration, which also features local musicians The Candela Allstars and previous Quantic collaborator Tempo, with rousing vocals sung in Spanish.

'Mi Swing Es Tropical' is a step away from Will Holland's alternative dance sound on previous albums. It gives a real insight into the musical development of Quantic since his relocation to Colombia, and how Central American music has sculpted his sound and been embraced into his production styles. Strong elements of Rumba, Cumbia, Guaguancó and descarga rhythms are to be found here, alongside the soul and signature Quantic Funk.

The B-side to this single is the previously unreleased instrumental version of 'Mi Swing Es Tropical' that trips along with the same Hispanic verve and super catchy hook, but capturing a slightly more chilled out vibe.

Quantic's progression in sound is perfectly demonstrated on the album 'Tropidelicó' by the Quantic Soul Orchestra, which was released in October 2007 to much critical acclaim.

Quantic will be playing DJ sets throughout December and The Quantic Soul Orchestra will be touring in 2008. Keep an eye on the Tru Thoughts website for details.

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
