Press Release :
Rob Mac. Musical magpie, hip hop chameleon, and catalyst for projects ranging from the down tempo beats of Jumbonics, to the twisted rap and soul of seminal outfit, Speeka. Gum Drop, though, is Rob's baby; and as a tempting taster of the forthcoming long-player, we present, for your delectation, a quartet of sweet cuts from the soon to be massive 'Hi-Falutin'.

Although Gum Drop is essentially a solo project, Rob Mac hooks up with a number of hugely talented vocalists on the album, including one of the UK's finest, Randolph Matthews. On 'Coming Up For Air', Matthews' whispered tones add a little mystery to this edgy, future soul workout. Squelching synths, fractured beats and the sound of wailing babies (!) all combine for a highly original club groove.

Zena Edwards is a name to watch out for. The London based chanteuse adds a little spice on 'Now I Rise'; a minimal booty bouncer that shows off the young lady's spoken word and singing talents perfectly. Another electro/soul anthem surely.

It's not only home grown talent that's in abundance though. Def Harmonic front man Jason Todd also became an essential featured artist after Rob heard his 'Krylon Worlds' single on Altered Vibes in 2004. Todd delivers his unique brand of hip hop/P-funk on the mighty 'Real', a cut that he recorded and mixed in one evening session, and one that's sure to do damage on many a discerning dance floor.

The appropriately titled 'One last chance' finishes things off in a laid back jazz/funk style, and not only features Rob's 'Scratch' side-kick Matt Smooth on drums and percussion, but also old pal Lucy Wilkins (4-Hero/Massive Attack) on some pretty impressive strings.

Now you've had a taste, look out for the mellifluous 'Hi-Falutin' long-player, available in all good sweet shops from March 27th on Altered Vibes……….and it won't rot your teeth.
