Grant Phabao & Djouls - Are Molesting Laura Vol.7
(MP3 Podcast on ParisDJs.com) T.I.M.E.C., 2007-05-16

Info :
Sorry for the hectic updates, and don't worry, many special mixes are scheduled for the upcoming summer... starting with this 7th volume of the "Molesting Laura" series.
Those following the story from the beginning might have understood by now that when T.I.M.E.C. honchos Grant Phabao and Djouls are "Molesting Laura", it can mean EITHER that they're going into a latin music frenzy, OR that they're plunging into the deep world of covers, bootlegs, parodies and rare remixes... That's the case here, with an EXCLUSIVE bootie of Cee-Lo's "The One" (of Gnarls Barkley fame - check our Cee-Lo mix) acapella over a Grant Phabao instrumental. This has been sent to us through the p2p from the Booty Smash Soundsystem, who wish to keep their identity under wraps... We've also took the liberty of playing the Ty remix our dubmeister did last year, which was only available here for 24h! Don't say thank you yet, cos' you'll also get some tasty covers of the Stranglers, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, George Harrison, the Strokes and many more... (ok now you can say "Hoorray!")

Biography on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_Tjader

Info :
Cal Tjader on Fantasy from 1973 with a mixture of Soul, Pop, Classical and Jazz covers. Yep, sounds pretty crappy but Cal just about pulls it off although some of it tests the patience (especially Ravel's Bolero). A lovely version of Gary McFarland's "Gary's Theme" and a nice drum percussion break down on"I Want You Back"are a couple of the highlights. I guess this lp is one for the easy lovers but it's not without it's (dated) charm. Fuck it, I like it anyway so see what you think!!! This actually made a cd reissue in Japan as part of the Free Soul Series - the vinyl is long deleted.
From orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com

A surprisingly funky soul-jazz album by Tjader. Despite the risk of cheesy covers (and there's a couple), Tjader's vibes add just the right touch to his arrangements of "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" and "Never Can Say Goodbye". The standout is the more uptempo cover of "I Want You Back" that boasts a sturdy breakbeat underneath.

10. Ty - Don't Watch That (Grant Phabao remix)
(from 'Don't Watch That' ParisDJs.com virtual release, 2006-11-23 / Big Dada & T.I.M.E.C. TIMEC123)
[TY REMIX - EXCLUSIVE]

Review :
What's happening in Paris DJs headquarters? So many cool remixes have started to appear in our headphones these days... And all EXCLUSIVE!!
After some mighty George Clinton soul reggae thang, a rare Philly soul reggae mashup of Lee McDonald (which will finally NOT be released - Favorite Recordings being run by a complete crook) and a supa-cool hip hop act from Rawkus Records, The Procussions, again dressed in classy reggae stylings, we're proud to offer a brand new Grant Phabao reggae remix of TY from Big Dada Records (Ninja Tune's hip hop sister label).
Using the a capella from "Don't What That (Knickers, Y-Fronts and Jock Straps)", the first single extracted from the new album "Closer", the french dubmeister has build a complete new uptempo one drop riddim, encapsulating the original track in roots reggae flavor, 100% original Jamaican style.

Info :
A funk and roots band based in LA. In this form they are at their heaviest but they are also the touring and studio band/producer, and co-writers with the Pharcyde, Plantlife, Souls of Mischief and other acts. As well as live & session players for Breakestra and a long list of others. Their debut 7" was licensed to numerous comps and synched for a campaign by Adidas. Supported across radio & press by Gilles P + many others. Their subsequent promo 12" featured Danny Krivit on the re-edit.

A seriously funky single from Orgone -- billed here as "the band behind Breakestra, Plantlife, and The Pharcyde"! "Hambone" is a track that's got a definite Afro Funk sort of vibe -- fast skittish drums peppered with bits of keyboards and horns -- but also served up with some electronics that really make it sound different! "Sophisticated Honky" is harder and funkier -- blasting horns and fuzzy guitars, all very much in the 70s soundtrack mode you might guess from the title! Last up is a Danny Krivit re-edit of the group's great take on "Funky Nassau" -- done with female vocals, and instrumentation that jams a lot more than the original!
