01. U-Brown - Let The Music Run
(exclusive jingle / recorded early February 2007 in Paris)

Jamaican deejay Huford Brown alias U-Brown was in town last February for a few dubplates, including some recording sessions at our studios. We showed him our web pages with Soul Stereo or The Lone Ranger and he immediatly agreed to record a quick jingle for the Paris DJs podcast, which you can hear opening this mix. He took the time to listen to a few of our recent productions with Carlton Livingston, Reggie Stepper, Lone Ranger, Ranking Trevor, etc., and promised to come back soon to produce with us some new tracks, so stay tuned!

This album, a collaboration between Midnite, and the number one label on their islands, I-Grade Records, is one of 3 in 2006 alone!

06. The Congos - Fraud System
(from 'Swinging Bridge' album, 2006 / Mediacom)

The sound of this album is not the best you could hope for a band who released the classic "Heart Of Congos" (way back in 1977), but it's more than nice to hear the mesmerizing voices of the original Congos (Watty Burnett, Cedric Mython and Roy Johnson) harmonizing together again. The songs are solid, a mix of spiritual, haunting chants and sweet reggae music, this is not a marketing quickly recorded cheap thing like you might suspect at first. Too bad the mastering is really horrible this could have been a massive comeback catalyst. Go see them on stage!

Alice Russell
07. Alice Russell - Hurry On Now (Boub Remix)
(from 'Under The Munka Moon 2' compilation, 2006 / Tru Thoughts)

"Alice Russell is simply one of the most exceptionnaly talented soul vocalists to emerge in this new century. (...) When receiving this new collection of rare or unreleased tracks, we remembered our previous mistake and weren't eagerly waiting for a new "album", but instead for some new SUPA-COOL tracks, version and remixes. And we were not disappointed at all." (from tru-thoughts.net)

George Clinton
08. George Clinton - U Ain't Runnin Shit (Grant Phabao Skank)
(from 'U Ain't Runnin Shit (Grant Phabao Skank)' virtual release, 2006 / The C Kunspyruhzy/T.I.M.E.C.)

"The George Clinton connection happened through our lovely friends at Kraked who did produce an incredible hippie-funkadelic album a few years back ("Drugs", with members of Funkadelic and new wolves). They had three Clinton tracks to remix and handed the slow tempo one to Grant Phabao for instant reggaeification. And you'll love this one. Rappers got shut off, Papa George got lifted in the spotlight with his stunning Curtis Mayfield-esque take, Blackbyrd's guitar still shining, and Phabao decorating the whole with an in-your-bed reggae riddim. The track is 100% approved by Doctor Funkenstein while on tour in Paris this summer and should see the light in 2007 on a strictly limited 7 inch..." (from grantphabao.com)

Border Crossing City Of Love
10. Border Crossing - City Of Love (feat Ricky Ranking)
(from 'City Of Love' single, 2007 / Kartel)

West London meets reggae. Broken urban rhythms collide with reggae echoes and effects and dancehall grooves. Featuring vocalist Ricky Ranking, better know for his Roots Manuva collaborations... This has been discreetly released at the end of january 2007 on a limited 10 incher, but a "Freedom Of Speech" album is announced for late march. This deep and conscious hip hop/reggae blend ("City Of Love"), massive dancehall trip ("Jump Down") and dancehall-goes-latin-R'n'B ("Rumba Medley") are quite good indications of a storming second album from Border Crossing. Bring on the goods.

Tracklisting :
A1. City Of Love (feat Ricky Ranking)
B1. Jump Down (In This) (feat Ricky Ranking)
B2. Rumba Medley (feat Ricky Ranking & Vicky Virtue)
