Press Release :
Of all amazing bands that play at Nublu, Forro in the Dark is the one that has been filling up this NYC club every single Wednesday for the past two and a half years!! Rain, snow, shine—there’s always a line outside on a Wednesday night. Why? Forro captures a vibe that could only be created in this part of town, in this part of the world, by these kinds of musicians. Mauro Refosco, the leader of the band, also plays with Bebel Gilberto, David Byrne, and Caetano Veloso to name a few. He has the magic of always making Forro’s performances a party. Despite the fact that forro is the traditional style of music from the Northeast of Brazil, Mauro and friends have evolved this music into a NYC/Nublu style . They extend the songs, repeat melodies, taking the rhythms throughout Brasil and Africa and back to the downtown NYC scene. They are spectacular—a band suited to fans of not only world music but fans of jazz, rock and dance music. This 12" marks a special collaboration between Seu Jorge and this original Nublu act. The rising Brazilian musician/actor is currently on tour in support of a new, internationally released full-length album, Cru, and has recently been seen in the films ‘City of God’ and ‘Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,’ a film in which he performed the music of David Bowie. Remixes on the album come from TruThoughts/BastardJazz artist Mawglee. It’s a perfect breakbeat track that will move anyone within earshot of a dancefloor. Also lending to the remixes is Wonderwheel artist Zeb, who turned Suor de Pele Fina into the first ever ‘Forrotone’ track.

English label Soul Jazz Records released this summer a collection of experimental rock recorded in Venezuela in the 1970s, at a time when oil was flowing in abundance and consequently culture rather well subsidized.
