Sans les Mothers et avec la participation du Abnuceals Emuukha Electric Symphony Orchestra, Zappa sort en 1967 son premier essai de musique contemporaine. Évidement un fiasco commercial, le disque se démarque de ses prédécesseurs par des compositions ("Part 1 and 2") fleurant bon le dodécaphonisme et l'influence revendiquée d'Edgar Varese. Un album difficile et pas forcément réussi.
