Press Release :
When asked what would be the 1st record Ear this ! would reissue I had no doubt in my mind that the Nick Ayoub Quintet – The Montreal Scene would be numero uno. From the first spin I gave the record I just knew this was it. The deepness and tightness of those songs captured both my attention and need to dig more into this period to find more about these musicians and who was at the forefront of the "Scene" at that time.
I wouldn't imagine my research would take me months later to contact Miss Ayoub and her son musician Jimmy Ayoub (former Mahogany Rush's drummer) to get the process started. With their help we found the original master tapes of this session down in th basement. I remember holding the box my heart pounding I just couldn't believe it was there, as if Nick Ayoub left it there for a purpose. Sadly Nick Ayoub has passed away in 1991 but left us high class material that will resonate forever with the reissue of this album.
Enjoy!

Venezuela 70 - Cosmic Visions Of A Latin American Earth - Venezuelan Experimental Rock In The 1970s (CD/2LP, Soul Jazz, 2016)

English label Soul Jazz Records released this summer a collection of experimental rock recorded in Venezuela in the 1970s, at a time when oil was flowing in abundance and consequently culture rather well subsidized.
