Daedelus - Impending Doom
(Download single) Ninja tune ZENDL171, 2005-02-21

Tracklisting :
01. Impending Doom ft. MF Doom
02. Just Briefly

Press Release :
In association with Peoplesound, Ninja Tune offers an exclusive download preview of the forthcoming Daedelus album, "Exquisite Corpse". For a paltry pound fifty (and what the fuck else are you going to buy with that?), you can have two blinding (geddit?) Daedelus tracks squeezed through a tiny pipe and straight onto your computer. It's called technology and we is in luv wid it innit?

First up, "Impending Doom" features a guest appearance by the one and only, the metal-faced MF Doom (Recent Wire cover star and generally just GOD ALMIGHTY in just about anybody's book in just about any language, it seems). Daedelus gives him some 40s movie soundtrack and samba shizzle to work with and Doomio pick it up, runs with it and it's TOOOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHH DDDDOOOOWWWWNNNNN!!! Oh yes it is.

To round things out, "Just Briefly" doesn't feature anyone but Daedelus himself, so the sideburn surfer chops up a little trill and then rides thing out over a high bass twiddle and a single guitar strum. Spacey, musical and quite infinitely melancholic it sums up the Daedelus aesthetic pretty fucking perfectly. Clever without being too clever, melodic without being twee, kitsch without being ironic, a kind of wide-eyed, big-brained music that anyone (whose soul hasn't been withered by working for a record company for a decade) should be able to get into.

Which is all another way of saying: Take your virtual pound fifty. Buy a virtual single. Save it for a rainy day. Blip.
