Les séries "Blue Break Beats" et "Capitol Rare" chez Blue Note sont d'une qualité constante et irréprochable, à un prix (pour une fois) correct. Je vous conseille tout particulièrement les éditions vinyles, enrichies de nombreux titres à chaque fois. Ici, 5 bonus-tracks, comme on dit, dont deux petits bijoux acid-jazz de Lonnie Smith "People sure act funny" extrait de "Turning point" (1976) et "Everyman's your brother" de "The Fourth Way" (1970) du groupe du même nom. Au total, 19 perles groovy, allant du piano boogie blues au disco funk en passant par le R'n'B, la soul revue façon Stax, le 60's soul rock, du groovy jazz standard, funky, bop, orchestral soul, Herbie Hancock funk, heavy soul et acid jazz... Le tout dans l'esprit break beats, avec de nombreux titres samplés avec succès par De La Soul, les Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest ou Dee-Lite. Les ancêtres de la culture hip-hop, en quelque sorte.
