Belleruche Four Songs EP
Belleruche - Four Songs EP
(2x7"/CD) Hippoflex HF003, 2006-12-16

Review :
Belleruche is the latest band signed to UK leading label Tru Thoughts. As soon as the deal was announced, previous efforts of the group popped up instantly on all specialized p2p services, proving the major and global interest generated by the Brighton label...
Belleruche is a scratch dj (Modest), a singer (Kathrin de Boer), and guitarist (Ricky Fabulous). They call their shit "turntable soul music". They've already released two other auto-produced collector singles, and a few tracks and remixes here and there, and their latest effort is their best yet. It's a double 7 inch with an obsessive hip hop ballad ("Northern Lights"), a swinging brassy breakbeat march ("Minor Swing"), a heavy soul number ("Bump") and a tiny bit Kid-Koala-dified acoustic pop/folk song ("Balance")! Tasty, ain't it? The sound is a bit lo-fi but we can only have high hopes for their next release on Tru Thoughts...

Reviews :
"The brilliant turntable trio return with a double 7 inch EP just in time for christmas. Tracks to dance to thru the festive season and beyond..." (ifmusic.co.uk)

"More Turntable Soul from Belleruche following up from their strictly limited Hippoflex release's ‘The Itch' and ‘Reflection'. Handmade hip-hop blues soul, like Sarah Vaughan, Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist stuck in a lift with Russian beer and a sampler. This EP has been created from dusty vinyl, scratched blues, overdriven amps and heartfelt soul. Belleruche are three musicians, vocalist Kathrin deBoer, Ricky Fabulous on guitar, and DJ Modest with turntables and sampler. Limited double 7 inch." (phonicarecords.co.uk)

English label Soul Jazz Records released this summer a collection of experimental rock recorded in Venezuela in the 1970s, at a time when oil was flowing in abundance and consequently culture rather well subsidized. However, this music had never really got out of the country until now, it's really a...
