Press Release :
"Impeccable…Perfect homespun beats" - DJ Magazine
"Sweet, sweet soul built around jazzy guitars, handcrafted beats, and a dusting of turntablism." - XLR8R Magazine
"Every track is a winner!! 10/10" - DJ Andy Smith (Portishead)

"Anything You Want (Not That)" is the first single from Belleruche's eagerly anticipated second album, 'The Express'.
Building on the trio's distinctive sophisticated-yet-quirky sound with a slightly more raw, bluesy vibe, "Anything You Want (Not That)" will delight and impress existing Belleruche fans and win over the uninitiated in style with its laid-back catchy charm, subtle electronic flourishes and Kathrin deBoer's inimitable, soulful vocals.

The unique sound of their acclaimed debut LP, 2007's aptly-named 'Turntable Soul Music' won Belleruche a dedicated and spiralling fan base and it rapidly became the fastest-selling debut on Tru Thoughts to date, with sales of well over 10,000 and counting. Acclaim and support has come from Daddy G (Massive Attack), Norman Jay and many other music luminaries around the world, and their international appeal has gained them playlisting on the French national radio station, FIP, and major features in the press as far afield as Switzerland, the USA and Canada.

Since the release of their debut, Kathrin deBoer, Ricky Fabulous and DJ Modest have spent a fair portion of their time gigging around the world and notching up performances at diverse and legendary locations including Glastonbury, Sydney Opera House and the Montreux Jazz Festival - where they befriended The Raconteurs and indie favourites Vampire Weekend and struck up a riotous genre-blending jam onstage. Belleruche also supported the mighty Fat Freddys Drop on tour earlier this year, playing to in excess of 5000 fans at the Hammersmith Apollo. With her irresistible style becoming increasingly in demand, Kathrin has become the regular singer for the Bonobo live band, and you may have recently heard her dulcet tones on tracks by the likes of DJ Vadim, Aaron Jerome and label mates TM Juke And The Jack Baker Trio.

The B side on this 7", "Don't Let Them Push You Around" is a slice of stripped back blues, with heavier bluegrass guitar in a virtuoso turn from Mr Fabulous and a pounding, White Stripes-esque bass drum beat, all shaken up and given a twist by a touch of turntablism from DJ Modest, and of course those vocals spinning a sultry tale over the top. An extra bonus, this is an exclusive track which will not be appearing on the album.

Look out for the sensational album 'The Express' which is out on CD on 13th October, along with a limited edition EP of the same name on double 7" vinyl.

Various - The Nickel & Penny Labels
(CD/2LP) Numero Group NUM039, 2012-01-23

Esteemed Chicago-based reissue label Numero Group has been raising the bar of the soul/funk/blues/rare groove compilation standards ever since 2004 and their first Eccentric Soul collection. They even managed to get 2 albums in our 10 Reissues Of Old Stuff That's Been So Cool To (Re)Discover in 2011 selection. Their latest release, Eccentric Soul: The Nickel & Penny Labels is the brainchild of Richard Pegue, a Chicago DJ/producer/writer/arranger of soul records in the 60s and the 70s, and might suffer from the comparison with previous volumes in the label's flagship series - for example the Boddie Recording Co. boxset from last october... But don't let the tracklisting fool you, this new compilation is a new fabulous one, with most of its best tracks to be found in the second half of the CD! Special flavors are indeed to be found in The Halleluiah Chorus' soulful gem I've Got to Find A Way, South Shore Commision's James-Brown-meets-The Jackson-5-on-The-Blues-Brothers-set You Got Me Hummin', Brothers & Sisters's psychedelick shack Don't Let 'Em Tell You or Joyce Williams' flute-heavy The First Thing I Do In The Morning, just to name a few. We couldn't resist playing the two latter one in our january Bag of Goodies mix recorded last weekend which you should be able to download in the coming days...

Square Records - Nirobi Edits - out on Square Records

Various - Nirobi Edits
(limited 12 inch) Square Records SQRC104, 2011-11-16

Summer 2012, Square Records were right there on spot at the start of the current re-edits craze, with amazing reworks from Onur Engin. The latest edition of their highly collectable 12 inches has arrived at the end of last year and as usual it's a 1000 copies worldwide, no re-press and no digital release affair, on which we advise to jump on before it's too late. This time Robert Luis aka Nirobi, A&R and co-founder of Tru Thoughts Recordings and a world-renowned DJ is the guest of honor, with 4 new edits of choice and their augmented dancefloor boogieness. You might be surprised, but even though there's fantastic re-edits from Soho, St Tropez or Paul McCartney in there, for us the revered treasure of the lot is the Mick Hucknall one (yep, the singer from Simply Red!), whose Farther Up The Road originally found on his 2008 Tribute to Bobby (a tribute to the blues musician Bobby "Blue" Bland), should turn all soulful dancefloors upside down, each time, guaranteed! We'll be playing this gem in the upcoming Bag of Goodies mix we've cooked for you last weekend...
