Since the release of Alice Russell’s ‘My Favourite Letters’ the praise from the fans for her music has been increasing at a pace that Tru Thoughts have, at times, found hard up to keep up with. Before Christmas we were repressing the album every few days to keep up with orders!
‘Fly In The Hand’ is the track that we have had most requests to release. Its combination of Alice’s belting vocals, squelchy bass and TM Juke’s production is definitely the sound of 21st Century soulful funk, and it has already garnered serious interest from many soul / R&B labels and tastemakers in the USA.
The single features a remix by DJ Vadim (OneSelf / Ninja Tune) who takes the tracks into a dusty hip hop / soul direction. As a special treat there’s also a version of ‘Hurry On Now’ from Alice’s ‘Under The Munka Moon’ album by the Dirty Diggers (Zebra Traffic) who have been picking up fans from Hip Hop Connection to Steve Lamacq for their tight beats, lyrical dexterity and arresting live shows.
