Press Release :
Joe Corrales, Jr. aka Yppah (pronounced "Yippah") is back. The young Mexican-American from Texas debuted on Ninja Tune in 2006 with his album, "You Are Beautiful At all Times", and now releases his sophomore effort, "They Know What Ghost Know".

Fashioning a rockier sound than last time out, the album draws on a cultural heritage that took in My Bloody Valentine alongside hip hop and which is heavily influenced by various forms of electronic music, psychedelic soul and rock.

Opening track "Son Saves The Rest" is wall-of-noise guitar pummeller. "Gumball Machine Weekend" sounds like southern-fried Go! Team with more soul. "Playing With Fireworks" somehow reminds you of the way you felt stuck between childhood and the adult world, not a million miles from instrumental tracks from the Phantom Band. "Shutter Speed" is nostalgia psyched into a memorable tune. Title track "They Know What Ghost Know" is West Coast rock reimagined as trance-rite, a spooky, echo-heavy drum-roll-filled set of repetitions and overlaps that builds into a tune which DJ Shadow in his heyday might have dreamed of making. "Sun Flower Sun Kissed" takes the doomy grey skies of MBV and gives them a Texan make-over. "Bobbie Joe Wilson" channels the Dust Brothers and proves Yppah hasn't lost his love of hip hop. Corrales build moods through a combination of melody, rhythm and sonics and if those moods are mainly melancholy, they're also ecstatic.

After a series of shows last year from SXSW to Japan, there's a real feeling that Joe Corrales is ready to step up into the big league. The album has that feel to it - that it has been made under huge skies, that it’s possible to make music which is epic and intimate all at once. It's beguiling and beautiful and makes you a little giddy, too. Find out what Ghost know.

Biography :
Yppah (pronounced "Yippah"), sometimes know as Joe Corrales, Jr., released his debut album You Are Beautiful At All Times in November of 2006 on Ninja Tune records. This stunning debut is a lush mix of beautiful and often times melancholic electronica, breakbeat drum samples with shoegazer melodies set in an atmospheric sound landscape.

Joe spent his early teen years playing guitar and bass in rock bands, then later as a scratch DJ who mixed hip hop and house in clubs sets. He's also a founding member of the turntablist group The Truth.

Drawing on a cultural heritage that took in My Bloody Valentine alongside hip hop and heavily influenced by various forms of electronic music, psychedelic soul and rock, his music often mixes guitars shoved through massive reverbs/delays, keyboards/synthesizers, live drums, and other techniques.

Since the release of You Are Beautiful At All Times, Yppah has formed a live band consisting of himself, Caliban Goodbrain (Thomas Sutherland), Ricky Sullivan and Casey Clemmons. Live performances of the album have included shows at SXSW 2007 and the enormously popular Starbucks Mixed Media Series at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Yppah again made an appearance at SXSW 2008 as a DJ. He has traveled with the likes of DJ Food, DK, Bonobo and Zero dB taking part in Solid Steel Nippon 2, a hugely popular music event in Japan. He has also created remixes for DJ Kentaro and Zero dB.

Recently, Yppah's music has been embraced by the entertainment industry. His songs have been featured in television episodes of "CSI" and "House", the movie "21", and in the videogame trailer for Atari's "Alone in the Dark."

Yppah's sophomore album, They Know What Ghost Know, will be released in May of 2009. Employing the same atmospheric mix as his debut album, They Know What Ghost Know will consist of a more rock based sound. He is also a third of the electronic/rock group Day of the Woman with Pollination/Nick Noeding, Jr. (Albuquerque, NM) and Stenographer/Dave Salinas (Houston, TX) formerly of "Go Spread Your Wings."

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
