Tru Thoughts 10th Birthday London, Vibe Bar, 05.09.09

Press Release :
A MASSIVE SELECTION OF TRACKS FROM THE TRU THOUGHTS 10TH ANNIVERSARY 3CD COMPILATION, CUT UP INTO AN EXPLOSIVE MIX BY FORMER DMC CHAMPION JFB.

JFB gained the title of UK DMC Champion in 2007 and Vestax Champion in 2003. His sets include a huge range of musical styles (Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Breakbeat, Hip Hop and everything and anything in between) as well as using his turntablism skills to scratch live with musicians, to record sounds and visuals at gigs and immediately manipulate them. His Battlejam nights have taken this show out and about. As a fellow Brighton (UK) resident he was the ideal person to hand the Tru Thoughts 10th Anniversary music over to for this extra-special mix.

"Tru Thoughts, Brighton - that's what it's all about!" - Gilles Peterson (BBC Radio1)
"Flying the independent label flag down in sunny Brighton... Happy birthday to Rob and the Gang!" - Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio1)
"Tru Thoughts celebrates its 10th anniversary with its ideals intact ... synapse-shorting, psychedelic electro-jazz fusion and fierce bassline/dubstep DJ cuts, alongside a steady diet of jazz, funk and soul." - Guardian.co.uk
"I love the Tru Thoughts label" - Laurent Garnier
"Tru Thoughts is the type of label that inspired me to own and run a record label." - Neal Sugarman (Daptone Records)
"Tru Thoughts has gone from strength to strength in its ten years, establishing itself as one of the leading independent labels in UK right now. Here's to another ten." - Simon Green aka Bonobo (Ninja Tune)

Many of the tracks in this mix are exclusive to the Tru Thoughts 10th Anniversary compilation and highly in demand. The comp came out on 19th October; including Quantic (in his many musical incarnations), Belleruche, The Bamboos, Hot 8 Brass Band, Stonephace, Nostalgia 77, Lizzy Parks, Flevans, Domu, Hint, Natural Self and Kylie Auldist; alongside previous acts such as the mighty Alice Russell, Bonobo and TM Juke; the music on this compilation paints a colourful sonic picture of the history of the label.

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
