Gozalo Vol 3
Various - Gózalo! Vol.3 - Bugalu Tropical
(2xCD/2xLP 1000 copies limited ed.) Vampisoul VAMPI113CD/VAMPI113, 2009-09-07

Vampisoul presents the third volume in their series of tropical Peruvian music of the 1960s! Compiler Like the previous two volumes, this album captures a little known but dynamic moment in Peru's musical development that allowed the consolidation of new trends oriented towards what would become known by the early 70s as salsa, as well as forging a vibrant scene that incorporated cumbia, latin soul, rock, and jazz funk. Rafael Hurtado de Mendoza brings you a new volume of this exciting, spicy mix of tropical gems that fill in the missing link between the mambo era and the dawn of salsa in South America.

Press Release :
Vampisoul presents the third volume in our series of tropical Peruvian music of the 1960s. It was labels like MAG, IEMPSA, DINSA and SONO RADIO that captured this emerging sound.

Like the previous two volumes, this album captures a little known but dynamic moment in Peru's musical development that allowed the consolidation of new trends oriented towards what would become known by the early 70s as salsa, as well as forging a vibrant scene that incorporated cumbia, latin soul, rock, and jazz funk.

Compiler Rafael Hurtado de Mendoza brings you a new volume of this exciting, spicy mix of tropical gems that fill in the missing link between the mambo era and the dawn of salsa in South America. Mario Allison, Alfredo Linares, Nilo Espinosa, Silvestre Montes, Tito Chicoma, Charlie Palomares, Ñico Estrada and Willie Marambio may not be well known names in "el Norte" yet, but the tasty tunes they cut over 30 years ago are a rare treat for the Latin music enthusiast, and they will finally come into the spotlight thanks to this compilation.

Coco Lagos and Melcochita may be the only names that people will recognize, but Los Girasoles (with their guitar-heavy break-neck speed rock/cumbia) and Lucho Macedo (arguably the first Peruvian tropical superstar), will become household names before long.

In addition to giving you a whole new selection of fabulous cuts, the sound quality is great, as usual. Remastered from original tapes for the maximum listening pleasure. ¡Gózalo! Enjoy it!

- Volume 3 of this successful series, described as "A fabulous collection and a real revelation. Top of The World Album, 5/5" SONGLINES (UK)
- Another great selection of tracks from a little known but essential period in the development of Latin music.
- A terrific, dance-inducing mix of genres across 28 tracks: mambo, salsa, son, guaracha, Latin soul, cumbia, boogaloo.
- Sleeve notes in English and Spanish by expert Agustín Pérez Aldave

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech - out on Big Dada Recordings

Speech Debelle Freedom Of Speech
Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
