Tropical Disco Hustle (CD/2LP, Cultures Of Soul, 2014)

If you're into the hard-to-find, disco-influenced, cosmic boogie or funk from Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica or the Bahamas, this Cultures Of Soul compilation is one you don't want to miss. Hand-picking up tunes one by one from rare-as-fuck vinyl, label honcho Deano Sounds has cooked a hard to resist tropical disco selection. None of those tracks were ever compiled before, and each would cost 50€ to 100€ and more on Ebay or Discogs. Dancefloor DJs should appreciate the bargain price of 20 bucks for all those groovy tunes! Favorites include the hevaily soulful 'Feel Like Dancing' from Levi John (featuring a young Whitney Houston on vocals!), the irresistible obscure disco gem from Joanne Wilson, 'Got To Have You' (also available on a limited 12 inch, read our review here), and the luscious 'Use My Body' by the 'Soul Queen' of the Caribbean, Mavis John. The 3 bonus re-edits by Waxist Selecta, Whiskey Barons and Al Kent, for less adventurous dancefloors but very cool nonetheless, are the cherry on the cake.

PS If you haven't heard Paris DJs' series of 'West Indies Funk' mixes from Loik, Djouls or Anthony Joseph already, you're in for a big & groovy trip through the Caribbean. ;-)

Press Release :
It seems like no part of the world has evaded discos' ubiquitous influence, including the Caribbean. The Caribbean in the late '70s and early '80s was a hotbed of musical activity and this compilation focuses on the best disco-influenced tracks from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.

All of the tracks here were officially licensed and reissued for the first time ever.

Highlights of the 13 tracks included on this compilation are: the under-the-radar cosmic disco tune "Got To Have You" by Joanne Wilson, a rare P&P Records-influenced track "Dance With Me" by Odessey One, the icy cool synth-trenched "Living On A String" by Wild Fire, the incredible dance floor-friendly "Instant Funk" by Merchant, and the disco reggae cover of "Rapper's Delight" by Prince Blackman.

This compilation was compiled and researched by Deano Sounds and includes edits by Al Kent, the Whiskey Barons, and Waxist Selecta. Out now on a double LP with a gatefold!
