Long time friends Neil Robinson (drums), Gary Crockett (bass), John 'Wilma' Willmott (sax and flute), and legendary latin percussionist and band leader Snowboy formed The Perceptions to express their mutual love of the late-60's Funk Jazz sound of labels such as Prestige and Blue Note. Press Release :
Freestyle Records are proud to present the debut album by The Perceptions - an all-star band made up of the UK's finest Funk artists!

Enlisting the talents of 'Speedometer' band-leader Leigh Gracie on guitar and the amazing young Italian jazz recording artist Sam Gambarini on Hammond Organ, the band is now complete. The musical genius and passion displayed on this, their debut masterpiece album 'Introducing..', is something wonderful to behold!

With a family tree that includes core members of The James Taylor Quartet, The Sound Stylistics, Speedometer, Lisa Stansfield, Incognito, Mark Ronson and The Superphonics (and of course Snowboy!) the band have put in a world-class performance as only the most experienced Funk Specialists can. They have delivered an album of original, tough, hard, uncompromising Tenor Sax and Organ-led Funk Jazz, typical of Prestige and Blue Note (a sound which takes in touches of Blues and James Brown too). They make no concessions to music fashions by doing Funky novelty cover versions, and the album was lovingly recorded on tape with vintage equipment for authenticity.

To compliment this release, The Perceptions have also recorded seven alternate short versions of the album tracks, which will be available as 7-inch singles only (crafty devils!). Two of them feature the legendary ex-James Brown Trombonist Fred Wesley!

The Perceptions are set to embark on a European tour at the end of October with an exclusive debut live session on Craig Charles BBC Radio 6 show 'The Funk And Soul Show' on October the 25th.

Vincent Ahehehinnou - Best Woman (LP, Analog Africa, 2017)

The latest Analog Africa reissue is up for pre-order on Bandcamp! The album, originally a 1978 release by Orchestre Poly Rythmo's singer Vincent Ahehehinnou, is rare-as-shit, worth nearly 4 figures if you can find a decent copy. There's only 4 tunes, two afrofunk monsters and two ballads, but...
