The Cheebacabra Pass The Information
The Cheebacabra - Pass The Information
(CD/Limited 2xLP/Digital) Mackrosoft Records MS0017, 2012-04-02

You've been teased with the funky Coming Home To Roots, played in our 300th Paris DJs mix. Here's the album now, the third in a series of unique quirky jazz/funk/hip hop full-lengths after Metamorphosis (2003) and Exile In The Woods (2006). Those two are now hard-to-find vinyls, and this new one should be the same soon since it's limited to 500 copies for the wax pressing. The formula is still the same: acidulated instrumental funk with crisp head-nodding beats and drums, lots of analog synths, Rhodes, clavinet, Moog, Wurlitzer, etc., and some flute and sax solos. Often sounding like a perfect the soundtrack to a psychedelic cartoon, this new volume of The Cheebacabra's adventures in wonderland is not to be missed. This is 21st century Blaxploitation at its best, the music we'd like to hear in private lounges, instead of the brainwashing electronic 4/4 numbness that's usually played. Get this un-f$!!king-believable album!

Press Release :

"Their mythic notoriety will soon become ubiquitous" - Wax Poetics
"New school funk for old school heads" - Dusty Groove

After a six year hiatus, The Cheebacabra has returned with their third release, Pass the Information. With a sound dubbed by Wax Poetics magazine as akin to “Disney’s Electrical Parade on acid”, The Cheebacabra’s latest offering delves deeper into their particular brand of instrumental funk. Analog synthesizers, phased-out sax and flute solos, and Hammond B-3 organ abound over crisp breakbreats. Bandleader/producer Cheeba enlisted the help of twenty other players, including such diverse musicians as Steve Moore (Sufjan Stevens), Mike Porcaro (Toto), and Johnny Conga (Sergio Mendes). As with their previous releases, the music is accompanied by fantastical cover art, this time by renowned Croatian surrealist Branka Brmbota.

When Cheeba was 18 years old he got pulled into the inner circle of the legendary Dust Brothers who redefined the art of sampling with people like Beck and the Beastie Boys. After three years with them, doing everything from cleaning bongs to editing tracks for the Fight Club score, Cheeba parted ways to focus on his own productions. The first Cheebacabra album, Metamorphosis, was released in 2003 to critical acclaim. Filter Magazine placed it on a “Best Records of 2003” list and Nic Harcourt of KCRW spun it on his “Best of 2003” radio program. In 2006, The Cheebacabra returned with the more tripped-out Exile In The Woods, an album Wax Poetics referred to as “a shape-shifting synthesizer masterstroke”. That same year, Cheeba partnered up with his brother Aja West (The Mackrosoft) to release Flash & Snowball, a jazz-funk homage to their childhood cats. Now, six years since his last release, Cheeba is proud to present Pass the Information, available as a limited edition 2xLP, CD or digital download.

Recorded in Seattle and Los Angeles.
