Stanton Davis' Ghetto Mysticism - Things Cannot Stop Forever (Al Kent Version) (12", Cultures Of Soul, 2014)

US label Cultures Of Soul launched a year ago a new series of disco 12 inches records. The first release gathers two jazz-funk disco pieces from American trumpeter Stanton Davis and his Ghetto Mysticism band in 1977, previously released on the 'Brighter Days' album. The tune featured here were reworked by UK disco legend Al Kent, who went for the multi-track recordings for even more re-creation… On the A-side, 'Things Cannot Stop Forever', with its killer rolling bassline, gets some new, four-on-the-floor modern funk drums, and additional synths played by Ricky Reid. The result is superbly trippy discoidal grooves that should warm up every kind of dancefloor. On the flip, the uptempo disco jazz number 'High Jazz' gets buffed-up into a cosmic stomping drive, between house and the trance-pop of Underworld.

Press Release :
The first in a new series of Cultures of Soul disco 12" records. This edition features two remixes of Stanton Davis and the Ghetto Mysticism Band by none other than UK disco fiend Al Kent!

Al Kent is one of the world's premier DJs revitalizing the classic disco sound by playing his own re-edits and remixes. Al took the original multi-track master tapes from the Brighter Days sessions and rebuilt these two spaced-out jazz funk masterpieces for the dance floor.

The A-side, 'Things Cannot Stop Forever' is built upon the original heavy bass line with a modern four on the floor bass drum laying down the foundation while Al layers the rest of the instruments from the original track piece by piece. The B-side features the up tempo track 'High Jazz' remixed with a solid disco beat.

Limited to 500 copies in a colorful old school disco sleeve.
