Square Records 4 : Nirobi Edits

(limited 12 inch) Square Records SQRC104, 2011-11-16

Summer 2012, Square Records were right there on spot at the start of the current re-edits craze, with amazing reworks from Onur Engin. The latest edition of their highly collectable 12 inches has arrived at the end of last year and as usual it's a 1000 copies worldwide, no re-press and no digital release affair, on which we advise to jump on before it's too late. This time Robert Luis aka Nirobi, A&R and co-founder of Tru Thoughts Recordings and a world-renowned DJ is the guest of honor, with 4 new edits of choice and their augmented dancefloor boogieness. You might be surprised, but even though there's fantastic re-edits from Soho, St Tropez or Paul McCartney in there, for us the revered treasure of the lot is the Mick Hucknall one (yep, the singer from Simply Red!), whose Farther Up The Road originally found on his 2008 Tribute to Bobby (a tribute to the blues musician Bobby "Blue" Bland), should turn all soulful dancefloors upside down, each time, guaranteed! We'll be playing this gem in the upcoming Bag of Goodies mix we've cooked for you last weekend...

Press Release :
LIMITED EDITION: 1000 COPIES PRESSED WORLDWIDE (NO RE-PRESS AND NO DIGITAL RELEASE)
For a while now, Nirobi Edits have been rocking the sets of many well known DJ’s and getting support from across the World, including Mos Def recently spreading the love in a Facebook post to his legions of fans. Now, finally, four sought-after tracks are available on this vinyl only release. The underground producer Nirobi is better known as Robert Luis, the A&R and co-founder of Tru Thoughts Recordings and a world-renowned DJ.

A1. SOHO / HOT MUSIC (NIROBI EDIT)

This stone-cold classic tune, loved by the Jazz, Hip Hop and House DJs and dancers alike, is given a new rework. The Edit features the original sample from "Skain's Domain" by Wynton Marsalis as the intro and outro; the rap verses from EPMD, KOs and Missy Elliot (who all sampled Soho); and of course the original Soho track, with the heavy drums you just cannot sit still to. This has been played on BBC Radio1 by Gilles Peterson, who Tweeted to all his followers when he got the edit: "thank you @ROBERTLUIS for all your 'made for me' DJ edits - latest one featuring Soho and Wynton Marsalis is a monster".

The track has also received huge support from the handful of DJ’s on the upfront promo including Dimitri from Paris, which has resulted in constant requests for Nirobi to get this Edit out on vinyl.

A2 KICK ‘AL’ ANCHUM / FARTHER UP THE ROAD (NIROBI EDIT)

One for the more soulful dancefloors, this is a flawless new catchy version of the timeless song.

AA1 ST TROPEZ / HOLD ON TO LOVE (NIROBI EDIT)

The original track is of course used by Jack Splash on the Cee Lo classic “I Want You”.  Re-Edited to repeat the break a few more times for added dancefloor boogie, this is already gaining major support from Rich Medina, Onur Engin, Lefto and Dom Servini.

AA2 PAUL McCARTNEY / CHECK MY MACHINE (NIROBI EDIT)

This is one of those tunes that Robert Luis always gets asked about when DJing out, most enquiries consisting of “when are you releasing this edit on vinyl?!”. This re-edit has had spins from Mr Scruff, Quantic, and Rob Da Bank has played it twice on BBC Radio 1.
