From music has stemmed a lifelong friendship between the four kids forming Speech Defect, all growing up on the same street. Four kids (Mr Linus, Boogie B, Thage and Prao-D) nourishing a profound love for "the good shit, not the lollipop".

When back in '95, putting their funky minds on one common goal, to kill the wack shit, it was only natural that the result would be downright slammers. The very first single, "Zoobiz", nowadays a collectors item (being limited to only 300 copies), didn't really break the group but sure caught people off guard with it's raw beats and charmingly naive, positive approach to hip hop music. It was obvious that Speech Defect didn't fit into any stereotype. Following singles and EP's, pressed in much higher quantities, have pretty much all sold out.

Now, with an explosive stage show and a steady flow of records packing tough, danceable beats and rhymes deluxe Speech Defect has reached out to music lovers all over the globe. In Japan, USA, Australia as well as back in Europe people fiend for SD's freshness.

Speech Defect's multiple festival gigs and extensive touring with Ugly Duckling and Pigeon John in 2004 and just recently with Breakestra has been crazy, hard-rocking events that got people talking and looking for SD in their local stores and on the Internet. One set was attended by one of producer Rick Rubin's friends who got so hyped he stood in front of the stage for ten minutes, cell phone towards the speakers to record the set straight into Rubin's voice mail. Afterwards he explained to the crew the freshness he experienced during the set. He hadn't had that feeling in 20 years going to hip-hop jams in NY. Rubin returned his call to get to know all about the band.

The first full-length album "Freshcoast Gettin' Rowdy" was exceptionally well received among fans and got rave reviews. It stayed on the top ten list for International hip hop on Japanese HMV for over six weeks. On Japanese itunes it did extremely well too, debuting as the top five most downloaded hip hop albums and staying on that list for over one month.

Now it's time to release their second, much anticipated, album "Come For The Funeral, Stay For The Food". And my god it's yummy. The album invites us to a rollercoaster ride on raw, immediate beats in a crammed club with flashing disco balls blinding your sight. It's a solid record. SD also invited some friends over to make the party jump properly. The DJ Young Einstein produced "Superfuture Remix" featuring their Los Angeles homies Ugly Duckling is an addictively funky step into the future. Thes One from People Under The Stairs and Abdominal also give one song each a super dope blessing. On the heavy bouncetrack "Cut It Loose" soul genius Aaron Phiri takes off and ain't hitting the ground. It's just too hot down there.

But SD also holds it down brilliantly themselves. On the break dance gem "Holla At Ya Favorite Color" Speech Defect makes color crayons super fresh. Another highly danceable number, "Toolrap", let us know Speech Defect is all about, um, hammers and screw drivers. "Whyled Out!" speaks for itself. It shakes, rattles and rolls down to the club with one commandment: DANCE!
