Totalement indispensable: le plus pychédélique des albums de Sly & the Family Stone, tout simplement. Vous trouverez cette merveille en série économique un peu partout en plus, donc n'hésitez pas: le hit Everyday people, le célèbre Don't call me nigger, whitey ("don't call me whitey, nigger", dit aussi la chanson...); le I want to take you higher sur lequel tout Woostock aura chanté en choeur "Higher!"; le groove-pop-funk You can make it if you try; et surtout l'immense jam de Sex machine, plus de 14 minutes d'acid-funk, où la guitare et la voix toutes deux passées à la pédale wah-wah s'enchevètrent et fusionnent en vrac... voilà quelques éléments du menu. Dommage que le son du CD des années 90 soit aussi cheap, chopez plutôt la réédition remasterisée bidule-truc de 2007, et de toutes façons, quel que soit le pressage, jetez-vous dessus! Avec ce disque, Sly Stone prouve qu'il est aussi important que Miles Davis, si l'on devait parler de musicologie, et au moins aussi génial, si on devait parler de feeling. Tout ça sans parler de l'attitude du groupe à l'époque, de leur engagement politique pacifiste et anti-raciste, de l'influence de ce disque sur les générations à venir, des sentiments de joie qui débordent de tout le disque... Bref, vous savez ce que vous avez à faire.
