EN 1980/81, Sly Stone collabore avec George Clinton, lui aussi signé chez Warner, et figure sur l'album de Funkadelic The Electric Spanking of War Babies. Mais fin 81 le docteur Funkenstein quitte le label avec pertes et fracas (il n'y aura pas eu de nouvel album de Funkadelic depuis) et le projet avec Sly part aux oubliettes... Sly lui-même disparait de la circulation et la Warner engage le producteur Stewart Levine pour sauver ce qui peut encore l'être. Cela donnera cet album de 1982, pas complètement anecdotique avec son amusante cover des Kinks (You Really Got Me), pas vraiment intéressant non plus, et pourtant avec du recul, bien au-dessus de la mélée de ce qui ce fait à l'époque dans le genre!
