Speech Defect Happy Hunting
Speech Defect - Happy Hunting
(CD) No Cool Music NCMCD003, 2009-02-12

This fan-tas-tic Hip Hop album was released earlier this year... alas not in France! One may wonder why, cos' it's even better than their previous classic Come For Da Funeral!! Tracks like What U Got, Ice Cream Truck, Happy Hunting feat. the Pharcyde, I Want Horror or Ghostin' would please all the funky b-boys, if played on the radio or released on a glorious 12 inch... So don't stop yourself at the stupid-ish cover artwork and grab a copy of this CD, you might not see it again in a long time.

"Speech Defect's 3rd album released in 2009 (European press with 17 tracks). Featuring artists like The Pharcyde, Kissey Asplund and Jid Sames. Singles from the album are Ice Cream Truck and What U Got. Happy Hunting to the people,, now!" - speechdefect.com

(import CD) No Cool Music NCMCD002, 2007-01-23

This 2007 album Come For Da Funeral, Stay For Da Food was one of the best Hip Hop records of the year, sadly only available on CD, and not available in France at all. It includes the supa-funky Superfuture Remix feat. Ugly Duckling, Whyled Out! and Cut It Loose feat. Aaron Phiri of Hearin' Aid, among others... For example, starting with a slowed-down Marlena Shaw sample, the same one St Germain used repeadtly on his Rose Rouge track, Hang Up's is a driving funk'n'breakbeats piece...

"Speech Defect's super dope, 2nd album released in 2007 (European press with 17 tracks). Featuring artists like Ugly Duckling, Thes One of People Under The Stairs, Abdominal, Aaron Phiri of Hearin' Aid and Samoo. Be sure to pick up this classic album before it's time for your own funeral.." - speechdefect.com

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
