Press Release :
Having put his own mark on soca ("Soca Sound System") and run some big riddims ("Run The Riddim"), the tropical Rick Rubin, the man called Poirier (Pwa-ri-ay), returns with a 3rd installment, "Low Ceiling", to cap off this series of EP's which will form the basis of his forthcoming album "Running High".

Back before Poirier became his current global bass representing self, he was like a lot of young folks in the early 90's. In that he often paid exorbitant ticket prices to attend poorly organized parties in dirty lofts and warehouses while listening to DJ's on bad sound-systems... i.e he was a raver. And like most current electronic/dance producers (or certainly anyone worth a damn) it was the influence of that music period that started him off on his career path... and to this day he's not above dropping a good 808 State track down next to the hottest new Trini jam.

So with his past as an influence and drawing on the current heavy cross over of electronic music/reggae & dancehall (which he in part has contributed heavily to), Poirier set about rounding out this three EP series with four instrumental bangers that have as much in common with Caribbean music hybrids as they do with classic techno (particularly of the Detroit variety)

It's four tracks of minimal percussion, 808 kicks, and stabbing synths. All party starters in their own right and when compiled with the other EP's shows the diversity of Poirier's production...and that you don't always need a vocal to run the dance.

In advance of the EP release and forthcoming Running High 2CD set (compiling EP's, new tracks, versions, and remixes) Poirier continues to relentlessly travel the world... having just played to over 6000 people in Mexico on Halloween, he's off to the UK, Australia, Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, back to Montreal for 2nd edition of Karnival... and probably in your city soon... really with his tour schedule there's greater odds he will be then that he won't...

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
