People Project - Natural

People Project Natural
People Project - Natural
(CD) 2009-07-03

People Project might look like a Souljazz Orchestra side-project for some, since their leader Philippe Lafreniere is SJO's drummer and co-singer and since two out of three SJO horn players are in the game too (Zak & Steve). Singer/guitarist Gabriel Bronfman from Mexico being the final member of the band... Natural is their second album after the People Project one released in 2006. People Project is an inter-cultural, multi-lingual collective which brings together collaborators from around the world to showcase a new form of international music with a message. With 'people' as the central theme in this project, artists from North America and Latin America have teamed up to participate on a record that features a distinctive and eclectic mix of funk, brazilian, hip-hop, reggae and afro in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

People Project Natural

Biography :
People Project is an inter-cultural, multi-lingual cross-border group uniting collaborators from around the world to explore many genres and create both authentic and original music with a message.

Our belief in people, in humanity, manifests itself in our rich cultural exchange in the process and production of human creative skill and imagination between emerging artists from everywhere.

Based simultaneously in Canada and in Mexico and founded by Philippe Lafreniere (Canada) and Gabriel Bronfman (Mexico) in 2006, People Project is creating a dynamic intermixture of folk, funk and roots music in several languages. Afro rhythms meet the harmonic language of blues and jazz, in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese where the worlds of latin, hip-hop, reggae, and funk find a common ground.

By reaching out to collaborators from many countries, namely Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad and the U.S. among others, we are building bridges and striving to create a never-ending artistic adventure, appreciated for its beauty and emotional power. As a result of our many travels and new collaborators that we meet along the way, People Project takes on new meaning with every new encounter.

Speech Debelle Freedom Of Speech
Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
