(MP3 Podcast on www.ParisDJs.com) 2011-06-28

Well well well... what have we here? This Paris DJs mix #300 has been months in the making, we really wanted to do something special, and after leaving a few good ideas on the side, we started asking our musical friends for some unreleased tracks they might have on the shelves - or hot off the press!! A huge thanks goes to Adrian Quesada, Diesler, Doctor Stereo, Grant Phabao, J-Walk, Onur Engin, Ping Pong (Ninja Tune promo agency), Renegades of Jazz, Soul Sugar, The Cheebacabra, JJ Whitefield, Big Pimp Jones and Chris Menist for sending some goods. Thanks also to those who sent music which didn't make it to the final mix... Big changes are ahead of us this summer so stay connected - you might be surprised!

Lexus Blondin Y Sus Afrocubanos present Afro Cubik

Lexus Blondin Afro Cubik

For his first appearance on the website, London-based French producer & compiler Lexus Blondin has put together an eclectic, yet very selected mix of Afro cuban jazz. This mix will have you travel back and forth from a pre-revolutionary Havana to a post war New York, a time when record producers were not afraid to think large. Their recipe for a different shade of Bebop? Reptilian brass sections, subtle arrangements written by monuments like Lalo Schiffrin or Chico O' Farril, coupled with the musicianship of talented soloists such as James Moody, Art Blakey, Machito or Cal Tjader. The result was a percussion heavy form of music with which jazz chords and improvisation found a new structure to play around. Four to the floor double bass, swirling trumpet solos, Hard Bop piano chords makes it a delight for Jazz dancers and sample seekers. Beware, this mix is highly explosive, handle with care!

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Aloe Blacc

Paris DJs Soundsystem presents Aloe Blacc

In 2010, Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, also known as Aloe Blacc, released his second album, Good Things, on Stones Throw records. The album was produced by Jeff Dynamite and Leon Michels for Truth & Soul Productions (El Michels Affair, Bronx River Parkway, Lee Fields, etc.). It's also the year that the American soul singer, rapper and musician exploded worldwide with I Need A Dollar, the opening title track on the HBO series, How To Make It In America. Aloe Blacc's career had started at the end of the 90s, with Emanon, a hip hop duo with producer Exile, and features countless appearances and collaborations. Paris DJs honcho Djouls tried to scan the whole spectrum of his career for this selection (months in the making), presented here in collaboration with Stones Throw Records (thanks Alex!). Enjoy the jazz, reggae, soul, hip hop, latin and funk versatility of Aloe Blacc's vibes and never forget that the man is an amazing performer before everything else so don't hesitate to go an see him on stage!
