Tighten Up was a summer 1968 number one R&B and pop hit single by Archie Bell & the Drells from Houston, Texas. It sold a million copies by May 1968. The song described an accompanying dance that the band had invented, also called the Tighten Up. It's one of the most addictive early funk tracks ever, and has been covered and played by everyone from Maceo Parker to The Bamboos since then.
