Dubstep pioneer Maddslinky - also well known as Zed Bias - has signed to Tru Thoughts to release his new album, Make A Change. The first single is Special featuring Omar, with a brand new track co-written with Mr Scruff plus all-star remixes from MJ Cole, Toddla T, At Jazz, Chimpo and Simbad.
Omar's career at the forefront of British soul has seen him collaborate with Stevie Wonder and other greats including MOBO winner Estelle, Angie Stone, Rodney P and Erykah Badu to name a few. Special is a perfect marriage of his immense talent and charisma with the cutting edge production of Maddslinky. Under his Zed Bias moniker, Maddslinky has been supported by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Pete Tong. He hit the UK Top 40 in 2000 with Neighbourhood - one of the all time classic UK garage tracks, which was re-released last year with a remix from Roska that fully redefined its importance to a younger generation of clubbers. The Make A Change album features collabs with Skream and other major names in the current UK music scene.

Press Release :
Dubstep pioneer Maddslinky - also well known as Zed Bias - has signed to Tru Thoughts to release his new album, 'Make A Change'. The first single is "Special" featuring Omar.

A full colour sleeve houses a 5 track vinyl EP and a 10 track bonus CD, with a brand new track co-written with Mr Scruff plus all-star remixes from MJ Cole, Toddla T, At Jazz, Chimpo and Simbad. Also included, is the video.

Omar's career at the forefront of British soul has seen him collaborate with Stevie Wonder and other greats including MOBO winner Estelle, Angie Stone, Rodney P and Erykah Badu to name a few. "Special" is a perfect marriage of his immense talent and charisma with the cutting edge production of Maddslinky.

Under his Zed Bias moniker, Maddslinky has been supported by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Pete Tong. He hit the UK Top 40 in 2000 with "Neighbourhood" - one of the all time classic UK garage tracks, which was re-released last year with a remix from Roska that fully redefined its importance to a younger generation of clubbers.

The 'Make A Change' album features collabs with Skream and other major names in the current UK music scene.

"What Maddslinky was doing was like nothing else I'd heard at the time and to be fair probably still to this day... it had an effect, inspiration" - SKREAM
"A total legend in the UK music scene...an early pioneer of the dubstep sound" - RAS KWAME (BBC RADIO 1)

Biography :
One of the pioneers of breakbeat garage his pseudonyms include Zed Bias, Phuturistix and Ruffcutt Bias

Zed Bias, Phuturistix, Henchmen, Daluq, Talissman, Ruffcut Bias, Nu Design, 7 Wonders, Dekata Project, Strontium Dog - just some of the names Maddslinky, aka Dave Jones, has recorded under in the last ten years as himself or in collaboration with others.

With a slew of seminal releases in 1999 on his own Sidewinder and Sidestepper imprints, Jones then hit the UK Charts as Zed Bias in 2000 with Neighbourhood, now widely regarded as one of the all time classic UK Garage tracks. So much so that with the recent resurgence in the 2-Step sound in the UK club scene it was re-released last year with a remix from Roska that fully redefined its importance to a younger generation of clubbers.

He is one of the pioneers of breakbeat garage but is always moving with - or ahead of - the times and his recent productions still grace the playlists of Radio 1 DJs Gilles Peterson and Mary Anne Hobbs, as well as into the record boxes of DJ / producers like Toddla T, Blame, Skream, Plastitian, Oneman, Benga, Kode 9 and Marytn (who included 'Lost on Tenori Street' on his recent 'Fabric 50' mix).

The first Maddslinky album, 'Make Your Peace', dropped in 2002 and although not given a very wide release it proved to be a highly influential record in the early days of dubstep, with the likes of Skream still citing it as a massive influence on his music. Featuring collaborations with Will White (Propellerheads), Kaidi Tatham (Bugz in the attic), Luca Roccatagliati (Ajello/Daluq), Kevin Robinson, Kayo, Juiceman and Simba, 'Make Your Peace' will be officially re-released on Tru Thoughts in the summer of 2010 to bring this pioneering album the attention that it deserves, alongside a brand new Maddslinky album with collaborators including Skream, Omar, Jenna G and many more.

Monophonics - In Your Brain
(CD/2xLP/Digital) Ubiquity Records UR299, 2012-05-15

Monophonics are a San Francisco soul/funk band we've been following quite some time. We played their afrofunk track Ageless feat. Karl Denson from their 2010 album Into The Infrasounds (check here), we've selected for the upcoming third volume of the series their epic afro/funk/jam thing Baobab Tree from their 2007 album Playin & Simple, and since we received this fan-tas-tic third album to be released on Ubiquity Records mid-may, we've also played their soul burner There's A Riot Going On in last month's Bag of Goodies selection and kept a few other marvels on the side for some upcoming selections… Their cover of Bang Bang will surely fit a Molesting Laura mix soon, for example… The Monophonics sound is deeply rooted in 70s Funk & Soul, but with a lot of fuzzy psychedelics and bits of 60s garage rock, nods to afrofunk and blaxploitation, rather close to the best productions from Orgone or Daptone's studios, and it's quite understandable that the band left their self-releasing politics to join a worldwide label such as Ubiquity! This one won't leave the Paris DJs stereo for weeks… and vinyl is recommended, as always.

Alan Evans Trio - Drop Hop - out on Royal Family Records

Alan Evans Trio Drop Hop
Alan Evans Trio - Drop Hop
(CD/Digital) Royal Family Records, 2012-05-14

Soulive's drummer Alan Evans is back in the groove with a trio formation. If you're into Booker T. and the MG's, Medeski Martin & Wood, The City Champs, Will Bernard Trio, The Meters and every good organ trio, Drop Hop is a must-have and a future classic. Loaded with instantly catchy tunes, it reveals the obvious talents of Alan Evans' longtime friends: heavy Hammond lines of Beau Sasser (a true revelation on B3 - at least for us) and superb Danny Mayer's Grant-Greenish guitar riffs. We love the rough and dirty sound of this release, one of the Spring's grooviest soul-funkwise platter, along with the new Sugarman 3 and the terrific Wil Blades/Billy Martin duo's album (Shimmy).
