Nik Weston presents Lost Funk, Soul (& Disco Gems) Volume Three (7", Mukatsuku, 2015)

These days, synth-heavy funk, disco, boogie & modern soul is trending like crazay. You're gonna say that it's been going on for 30 years already… and you'd be right. But the dancefloors don't care. Well, the more discerning ones, of course, those educated to the sound of George Clinton and a few others, they don't give a damn about the fact that there's nothing new under the sun there. All they want is a cool boogie time, and in all cases none of that 'dance' bullshit aiming for people with the musical education of less than 10 years old kids. While the nu disco scene is exploding with uncredited edits, Mukatsuku Records have been officialy reissuing some fantastic DJ tools for quite some time now… and their latest 45 is another one heavy hitter that'll go straight to the DJ bag! A-side is indeed 'Hittin It' with funk/boogie group from Atlanta The Chapparrals, a smashing tune extracted from their 1978 LP 'Shake Your Head'. An irresistible groove, murderous breaks, in-your-face horns and a maaad synth line - that's the shit, baby!! B-side is taken from The Diddys featuring Page Douglas' 1977 album 'Agony & Extasy', produced by Charles Earland. Souful, disco-tinged, with some killer vocals and Santana-esque guitar solos, this is a late night heavy kind of groove…

Press Release :
Super official rareness for Mukatsuku as they dig deep in their box of gems to unearth two stormers from the USA neither of which have either ever been out on a 45 before. First up from 1978 is Atlanta Georgia based funk/boogie group The Chapparrals which featured Cameo guitarist/vocalist Anthony Lockett with a track that kicked off the Holy Grail Shake Your Head album on the private label Maximillion . '' Hittin' It'' does exactly what it states on the tin as a monstrous funk groove ably assisted from a punchy brass section leads way to a swirling synth and bassline workout. The track on the flipside also never out as a single in it's own right is by The Diddys featuring Paige Douglas and lifted from the Agony And Extasy album from 1977 produced by Charles Earland for the Bam Buu label. Soulful Disco Funk with tight drums and an overload of lead guitar and that killer vocal melody that will stick in your brain for weeks...
