King Porter Stomp - Let It All Out - out on Comm:UNITY Sounds

King Porter Stomp Let It All Out
King Porter Stomp - Let It All Out (Limited Edition EP)
(CD/Digital) Comm:UNITY Sounds, 2012-01-23

'Let It All Out' is a limited EP edition and a new release for King Porter Stomp, a truly original band from Brighton, UK. This seven-piece ensemble delivers a strongly compelling blend of funk, ska, hip-hop and afrobeat, personified by its charismatic leader MC Jonezy. The man really toasts, with a style of his own that mixes power, rage and melancholy in a single voice. King Porter Stomp’ first album (Poison The Beat, Comm:UNITY Sounds, 2008) got rave reviews in UK and was followed in 2011 by a dub version EP, Antidote Dub. Meantime, with their intense live performances at big festivals, it became obvious that King Porter Stomp was killing it, both on stage and in the studio. This EP is a perfect candy to wait for their eagerly awaited second album. It's also a great fusion of the band's ingredients: political awareness, solid lyrics, smooth grooves with superb horn arrangements, afrobeat and rocksteady glints.

Press Release :
Seven-piece Brighton-based collective, King Porter Stomp, are as infamous for their finely tuned kaleidoscopic fusion of funk, ska, hip-hop and afro-beats, as they are for their eclectic and energetic live performances. Coming together in the Sussex seaside town in 2006, the band fronted by MC Jonezy, employ a wide repertoire of slick contemporary toasting (MCing). Backed up by soaring brass, heavy bass and infectious melodies, which have all helped establish KPS as major players on the UK live circuit.
The band have performed at a string of legendary festivals in the UK and abroad including Glastonbury, The Big Chill and Secret Garden Party, and embarked on their first UK tour in 2010, playing major venues as well as spreading their politically conscious message via lively impromptu street busking in city centres en route.

Having recently provided the music for a 12-show run of a brand new play at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on London’s South Bank, garnering critical acclaim from the likes of The Independent On Sunday, Financial Times and Evening Standard, King Porter Stomp prepare to deploy their laid-back, rocksteady track Let it All Out in limited edition 6-track EP format. Frustrated by the daily grind of social expectations, lyricist, Jonezy explains where much of the influence for writing Let it All Out came from: “Let it All Out is about keeping your inspiration alive and doing your thing how you want to do it, no matter how the times or people around you are telling you it should be done. It's about finding that inspiration, keeping it safe and using that strength and energy to just let it all out”.

Skillfully inducing poignant rhymes with a sense of calm, and in an authentically English manner, it’s not until Jonezy’s mellow rap is met with languorous horns, heavily plucked bass and skittering drums on Let it All Out that this ensemble are at their best. This limited edition EP also features bonus tracks Hot Coals and Breathless, together with the dub and accapella versions of Let It All Out, and Joller’s blissed-out dub step take on Hot Coals. KPS conjure up a refreshing modern take on their Two-Tone predecessors The Beat and The Specials, while instilling their place in line with their ska big-band contemporaries Fat Freddy’s Drop and Hepcat.

Biography :
If you’ve ever seen King Porter Stomp busking on street corners, in packed festival tents or in venues round the UK, you’ll know that these boys came to party. King Porter Stomp bring together their own blend of ska-funk-dub and afrobeat and top it all off with a coating of well crafted conscious rhymes. With massive horn lines, heavy bass and intricate guitar work, they have pulled on heart strings and won over the dancing feet of crowds across the UK and Ireland.

Since coming together 3 years ago, the 8 dedicated members of King Porter Stomp have put their heads together and blended their very different musical backgrounds to form a sound and energy on stage, in streets and in the studio that has kept them out of pigeon holes and in venues, where they keep rocking crowds and receiving top reviews.

Galactic - Carnivale Electricos - out on Anti- Records

Galactic Carnivale Electricos
Galactic - Carnivale Electricos
(CD/LP/Digital) ANTI-, 2012-02-21

Two years ago we left Galactic with Ya-Ka-May, their heaviest album to date, followed by a long, successful tour. The band did cameos in HBO show TREME and composed a few tracks for PS3 video game Infamous 2 (located in New Orleans, naturellement). Stanton Moore released a record with his trio and another mighty one with Garage à Trois, among other things. Ben Ellman helped Trombone Shorty launch his career with Orleans Avenue, producing his two first records on Verve. So with everyone so busy, a new album this quickly was the last thing we expected. We were wrong. Galactic is now 18 years-old, and it's a strong and creative teenager who can't help partying all night away while Western world - at least its financial and capitalistic side - teeters on the brink. Here comes the brand-new album Carnivale Electricos, to be released on Mardi Gras 2012...

Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro - Look Around The Corner (single) - out on Tru Thoughts

Quantic and Alice Russell Look Around The Corner
Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro - Look Around The Corner
(10" vinyl/Digital) Tru Thoughts TRU249, 2012-02-20

The new collaborative full length from Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro, Look Around The Corner will be released on Tru Thoughts Recordings next april; preceded by the lead single (the title track) out on deluxe 10 inch vinyl and digital in February. One could of course expect some deep Colombian roots stuff, or even maybe, on the opposite, a comeback to the duo neo-classic UK funk sound of some of their previous collaborations. Not at all, this first single is really a surprise, and the biggest influence appearing here is obviously (much-lauded in those pages) arranger and producer Charles Stepney (Minnie Riperton, Terry Callier, Rotary Connection, Marlena Shaw, etc.). Go and check the mix we had published way back in 2006, Charles Is The One if you haven't already! If the whole album's as good and deep as this single, it's sure to be one of the releases of the year! Nuff' said. (Djouls)
