Press Release :
Yes, it's the first Fluid Ounce 7" and yes, it's in SUPER LIMITED supply.

Following the immense 90 track DVD entitled 'Fluid Ounce Presents... ' here's a seriously exclusive release of two tracks by the Steve Lamacq-championed, Rob Da Bank-session-recording Kids In Tracksuits. One, "Zone" featuring Mr. Lif, is exclusive to this 7"; the other, "No Hooks" featuring Non Genetic, taken from the aforementioned DVD.

This 7" also serves as 'one last roll of the release dice' before we see the disbanding of the Kids (in Tracksuits), which makes this an outrageous vinyl rarity; one half of the Kids package has now split away and set up stall under the guise of 'Lone', yep - that king of wonk, now sharing the playlists and platters worldwide with the likes of the much hyped and respected Martyn and Flying Lotus. Luckily however, before all this happened, Fluid Ounce (headed up by Chris Vogado of Zero dB) got hold of the A side here, a joint that's probably best described as 'the lost Rakim track'.

"Zone", complete with the crackly tones of the heavyweight and much loved Mr. Lif, represents the world of hip hop as it should be. If there were an MC worthy of the status of Rakim's brother, this is he... just bouncin' over the slam of drums and bass that whack you in the face, weaving around pure Peruvian pan pipes and leaping up to the splashing crunchy hi hats, this is MENTAL B-BOY PRESSURE for ya. Make way on the lino, and make sure the shell toes are clean... 'No Hooks' featuring Non Genetic: this guy is down with the likes of Rustie and Hudson Mohawke, you know where this release is going with all these names eh? This is the flipside of the hip hop that lasts - pure intelligent, tongue twisting rhyming with subtle but boomin'-in-the-jeep beats. Simply the good stuff.

The 2nd November release coincides with the first ever digital release of all five Fluid Ounce 'Unmeasured' compilations, which have seen support over the years from the likes of Seiji (Bugz In The Attic), Peter Kruder, Masters At Work, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), and Radio 1 DJs including Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong and Mary Anne Hobbs. And to celebrate this veritable treasure trove of music all being made available, there will be a re-push of the 'Fluid Ounce Presents... ' DVD (Did we mention it has 90 tracks on it??) which first came out last year, showcasing an eeeenormous array of top quality tunes to the delight of DJs and music fans everywhere.

To kick all this off, there is a killer DJ Moneyshot mix of all 90 tracks from 'Fluid Ounce Presents... ' - available first on Solid Steel for a week... check it out here, from 2nd October: ninjatune.net/solidsteel

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech - out on Big Dada Recordings

Speech Debelle Freedom Of Speech
Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
