Jazzanova - Upside Down - out on Sonar Kollektiv

Jazzanova Upside Down
Jazzanova - Upside Down
(CD/Digital) Sonar Kollektiv SK232, 2012-01-23

From the left or the right side? Straight ahead or upside down? No matter how you look at it - but it seems to be about time that all the remixes for Jazzanova that have been done over the last few years need to be bundled up in a nice big shiny package. After the first collection of remixes from 2003 (Remixed, JCR040-2) now's the turn for Upside Down, some of dance music finest key figures' interpretations of selected Jazzanova tunes from the last eight years. And be assured, the line-up is as massive as the Berlin's quintet worldwide reputation. From fellow Berliner Henrik Schwarz, Ye:Solar and Âme to Atjazz and Mr. Scruff from the UK, Motor City Drum Ensemble from Cologne, Glasgow's Midnight Mauraders and Soldiers Of House from Pretoria (South Africa) this is a top notch international heavy weight affair. Sonar Kollektiv will kick off with two 12 inches including new remixes by amazing artists, such as Alex Barck, Dima Studitsky, Manuel Tur & Dplay and Motor City Drum Ensemble (in stores on 28th of november, CD is coming end of January 2012).

Press Release :

Inspired by these outstanding reworks of their original material Jazzanova member and DJ Alex Barck and Jazzanova Live! band member Stefan Ulrich (under his Neve Naive moniker together with Alexa Voss on vocals) also got upside down and delivered each a remix to this prosperous project. Besides these two brand new and unreleased remixes the ones by Soldiers Of House and Midnight Mauraders are as well first time available to the public.

Both acts are ones to keep an eye on. Pretoria twosome Soldiers Of House (also known as Abwalk) started releasing music in 2005 before founding their own label Soldiers Of House Entertainment in 2008. When participating in a Jazzanova remix competition in 2009 and making it second they did not only caught the attention of Jazzanova/Sonar Kollektiv but kick started their career into newer heights. Their remix of ?Lie“ is another promise of things to come. Also a duo, The Midnight Marauders (Ali Herron and Ross Telford ) hail from Glasgow and have caused ruckus with their solo work as OOFT! and Ross? DJ residency at the UK’s longest running weekly house night Subculture at the Sub Club. More remixes and original material is expected in the very near future.

The Upisde Down release will be presented in a very unique and appealing packaging. The CD will come with a print on the front of the jewel case.
The art work is done by JuToJo. The accompanying 12inch singles (SK229 & SK230) will be packed in a screen printed plastic outer sleeve. A true collector's item!

Galactic - Carnivale Electricos - out on Anti- Records

Galactic Carnivale Electricos
Galactic - Carnivale Electricos
(CD/LP/Digital) ANTI-, 2012-02-21

Two years ago we left Galactic with Ya-Ka-May, their heaviest album to date, followed by a long, successful tour. The band did cameos in HBO show TREME and composed a few tracks for PS3 video game Infamous 2 (located in New Orleans, naturellement). Stanton Moore released a record with his trio and another mighty one with Garage à Trois, among other things. Ben Ellman helped Trombone Shorty launch his career with Orleans Avenue, producing his two first records on Verve. So with everyone so busy, a new album this quickly was the last thing we expected. We were wrong. Galactic is now 18 years-old, and it's a strong and creative teenager who can't help partying all night away while Western world - at least its financial and capitalistic side - teeters on the brink. Here comes the brand-new album Carnivale Electricos, to be released on Mardi Gras 2012...

Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro - Look Around The Corner (single) - out on Tru Thoughts

Quantic and Alice Russell Look Around The Corner
Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro - Look Around The Corner
(10" vinyl/Digital) Tru Thoughts TRU249, 2012-02-20

The new collaborative full length from Quantic and Alice Russell with the Combo Bárbaro, Look Around The Corner will be released on Tru Thoughts Recordings next april; preceded by the lead single (the title track) out on deluxe 10 inch vinyl and digital in February. One could of course expect some deep Colombian roots stuff, or even maybe, on the opposite, a comeback to the duo neo-classic UK funk sound of some of their previous collaborations. Not at all, this first single is really a surprise, and the biggest influence appearing here is obviously (much-lauded in those pages) arranger and producer Charles Stepney (Minnie Riperton, Terry Callier, Rotary Connection, Marlena Shaw, etc.). Go and check the mix we had published way back in 2006, Charles Is The One if you haven't already! If the whole album's as good and deep as this single, it's sure to be one of the releases of the year! Nuff' said. (Djouls)
