Norway's most famous and acclaimed nine-piece jazz/alt.rock/prog/baroque/afro-beat masters return to the fray with a new EP drawing on their recent album, One-Armed Bandit. Bananfluer Overalt is a mixture of epic refrains, polyrhythmic mania and fiendish musicianship, sophistication and naivety being slammed together so hard that they fracture into something else altogether.

Press Release :
Norway's most famous and acclaimed nine-piece jazz/alt.rock/prog/baroque/afro-beat masters return to the fray with a new EP drawing on their recent album, "One-Armed Bandit." "Bananfluer Overalt" is a mixture of epic refrains, polyrhythmic mania and fiendish musicianship, sophistication and naivety being slammed together so hard that they fracture into something else altogether.

After that brief reminder of the wonders of Jaga, though, Lars Horntveth and co call in the remixers. Sprutbass comes straight out of the Scandinavian Skweee scene centred around the dødpop label. In keeping with the central tenets of the sound, Sprutbass reimagines "One-Armed Bandit" as three million synths riding to Valhalla on the back of a giant mechanical bird built on the offcuts of Chic's leather jackets. FINAL (known to his mum as Magnus August Hoiberg) takes "220v / Spektral" and makes it into sunny disco/electro. Animator and producer Andreas Paleologos aka Cuckoo, on the other hand, turns "Touch of Evil" into the soundtrack for the heartbreaking sibling rivalry of Mario and Luigi, before Prins Thomas rounds things out with a slow-building and utterly epic 11 minute "Diskomiks" of the title track, held together by a low-slung baggy groove.

In an age of identikit, carefully-constructed and self-conscious acts, Jaga Jazzist are pure Nordic fresh air – pedal-to-the-metal, maverick, funny and serious, great musicians not too hung up on "taste" or appearing cool. And after all, what's cooler than that?

Praise for "One-Armed Bandit":
"Dazzling comeback after five years by the Norwegian nonet… their sound remains muscular and funky." - Mojo 4/5
"A manic, brilliant piece of instrumental song writing that shows Jaga Jazzist to be at the top of their game." Clash 8/10
"Walking a fine line between being leftfield and hook-laden, Jaga Jazzist have delivered another selection of epic, psychedelic sojourns through electronics, brass and beats that consistently engage and excite." Music OMH 5/5
"‘One-Armed Bandit' is an extraordinary listen on every level… This hugely ambitious and satisfying album just gets better with every listen, and already looks like being a landmark album of 2010" DMC Update - Album Of Week
"The nine-strong Nordic pranksters bustle energeically between instrumental jazz and prog rock, never letting complexity obscure a good pop tune." The Times 4/5
"Bursting with ideas... a band in its prime." The Milk Factory 4.3 / 5
"This Norwegian ensemble are what all modern forward-thinking bands should aspire to… Few records in 2010 will contain songs quite so mind-bogglingly broad, playful and beguilingly pretty." BBC
"‘One-Armed Bandit manages to be both playful and innovative." Q Magazine
"Utterly fabulous return from the brilliant Norwegian instrumental nonet, which suggests Fela Kuti soundtracking ‘Fantasia'." Time Out
"‘One-Armed Bandit' is bonkers and brilliant in equal measure." DJ
"There's so much energy here, so much creativity… It's heartening to know that there are still people out there making music this complex and vital." - Tasty Fanzine
