Almost anyone who purchased the awesome Tony Allen remixes 12"s or compilation from Honest Jons last year will tell you that the best remix by far (well, maybe barring MvO's) was the blazing horns of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble's 'Losun' rework. We all fell under the spell of this tremendously joyful track and have been waiting with baited breath for new material, especially as everything they release just sells out immediately. Afforded their own beautiful 10" cut with full picture sleeve, the group, consisting of some 9 players on a variety of trumpets, trombones, baritones and Sousaphones deliver two tracks of beaming soul music at once connected to the space-jazz of Sun-Ra and equally the colourful melodic sequences and rhythms of Tony Allen. The comparisons to a High-school Brass band playing way beyond their level are intended with the upmost respect, but that's really what these tracks feel like, a youthfully exuberant and funky ensemble of brass and drums that would put a smile on anyone's mug. It's a an essential purchase - an another limited pressing that will no doubt last all of 5 minutes. Very good indeed. (Source : boomkat.com
