Hint - Laboratory Series No.1 : Beryllium - out on Tru Thoughts

Hint Laboratory Series 1 Beryllium
Hint - Laboratory Series No.1: Beryllium
(Download single) Tru Thoughts TRUDD015, 2010-08-30

This EP marks the beginning of a new series of releases by Hint. This first, Beryllium, in conjunction with Soundcloud, features three new tracks (including one, Pretty Stable, which will be available worldwide for free download for a limited period) plus two brand new beats for a vocalist competition, the winner of which will get a worldwide release on Tru Thoughts. The lead track, Give It Up channels the summer sounds currently being given a fresh lick of paint by the likes of Dam Funk and Onra - 80s electro, disco and boogie. Lightning bolt synth stabs are applied to perfectly rounded bass line melodies with Honor Roll Crew's Josie Stingray and 1-O.A.K raising the temperature to steaming HOT. Give It Up will also feature on the forthcoming Black Gold 12" alongside other previously unreleased-on-vinyl gems.

Press Release :
This EP marks the beginning of a new series of releases by Hint. This first, "Beryllium", in conjunction with Soundcloud, features three new tracks (including one, Pretty Stable, which will be available worldwide for free download for a limited period) plus two brand new beats for a vocalist competition, the winner of which will get a worldwide release on Tru Thoughts.

The lead track, "Give It Up" channels the summer sounds currently being given a fresh lick of paint by the likes of Dam Funk and Onra - 80s electro, disco and boogie. Lightning bolt synth stabs are applied to perfectly rounded bass line melodies with Honor Roll Crew's Josie Stingray and 1-O.A.K raising the temperature to steaming HOT. Hint hooked up with Josie a couple of years ago after hearing one of her tracks with J*Davey, "Doing My Thing". This collaboration has been a long time coming as Josie is so busy with other projects, but there's definitely more in the pipeline. "Give It Up" will also feature on the forthcoming Black Gold 12" alongside other previously unreleased-on-vinyl gems.

"Pretty Stable" is halfway between DJ Zinc's self-coined genre, Crack House, and the UK Funky flavours that are rocking dancefloors nationwide; and "Gallop Track" is a tough house roller with massive drops. All the tracks are made/composed from scratch with no samples, with Hint playing every part.

For the competition we will be uploading parts of two new cuts to Soundcloud for entrants to download and add their own vocals. The initial judging will be done by Hint and Tru Thoughts A&R Robert Luis, with the final ten tracks also being judged by Quantic, Alice Russell, The Bamboos and Belleruche, all leading to the exciting prize for the winning vocalist of a worldwide release with Hint on Tru Thoughts.

Venezuela 70 - Cosmic Visions Of A Latin American Earth - Venezuelan Experimental Rock In The 1970s (CD/2LP, Soul Jazz, 2016)

English label Soul Jazz Records released this summer a collection of experimental rock recorded in Venezuela in the 1970s, at a time when oil was flowing in abundance and consequently culture rather well subsidized. However, this music had never really got out of the country until now, it's really a...
