Ghost Writerz - For The Love feat. Amy True (Digital Single, Tru Thoughts, 2015)

Already the 4th single extracted from the 'GWZ All The Way' released in july 2015, 'For The Love' is a dub/hip hop anthem ready to ignite the stages. There's even a wobbly remix by Matta for the more raving clubs. And a digital AA-side, with the dancehall/hip hop banger 'Wind Up Your Waist'. More of this is welcome anytime!

Press Release :
Out 16th October, “For The Love feat. Amy True”/“Wind Up Your Waist feat. Shiffa Dan, RTKal & G.O.L.D” is the next single from supernatural Sound System duo Ghost Writerz (GWz), fresh from releasing their acclaimed July debut LP ‘GWz All The Way’. After a series of heavy hitting singles to date (the Trap-infused “Back It Up”, the Junglist anthem “How We Living” in collaboration with Pete Cannon, Future Dancehall banger “Tell Me” and Lovers’ Rock ballad “Rose”), this new digital double A-side further highlights the striking range of influences and twists at play in the GWz sound, with two more contrasting cuts from the LP alongside a brand new remix from forward-thinking bass merchants Matta.

Fiery and conscious, dub-inflected Hip Hop track “For The Love” sees the pristine stylings of main GWz vocalist Jason “Jimmy Screech” Bradshaw joined by one of the UK’s fastest rising MCs, Amy True (whose recent exploits include vocals on Akala’s ‘Knowledge Is Power Vol. 2’ LP), to build a headstrong ode to the art that keeps them going, regardless of the madness that goes along with it.

A crowd hit at Boomtown, Nozstock and Ministry Of Sound - to name a few GWz showcases this Summer - “Wind Up Your Waist feat. Shiffa Dan, RTKal & G.O.L.D” brings the carnival mode, producer Harry “Sleepy Time Ghost” Metcalfe infusing and expanding on the Future Dancehall sound with an insistent tropical heat. Contrasting MC styles come from regular crew Shiffa Dan, G.O.L.D and Birmingham’s young upstart RTKal, whose Skunk Rock mixtape recently premiered via Complex, and whose collaborative EP with Ed West will be the next Sharp And Ready release in November.

Matta’s rework of “For The Love” sees them demonstrating the signature rolling, sub-heavy style that has gained acclaim from Björk, Rudimental, SKisM, Foreign Beggars, Annie Nightingale, RacknRuin, N-Type, High Rankin, Happa and more. “We heard the original of this track and knew it was something huge”, say the revered production duo of the tune, which they skilfully spin into a big, club orientated version that amps up the punchy urgency.

Since signing to Tru Thoughts a year ago to spearhead the label’s Sound System Culture platform, Sharp And Ready, Ghost Writerz’ inventive mix of Bashment, Hip hop, Jungle, Reggae and Dub has pricked up ears all over, with praise from Mercury winners Young Fathers (who dropped a track in their Solid Steel radio show) and heavy support from the likes of Toddla T and Ras Kwame. Further airplay includes MistaJam, Huw Stephens, Charlie Sloth (and across BBC R1/1Xtra), Julie Adenuga (Beats1), Tom Ravenscroft, Steve Lamacq, John Kennedy, BANG FM, Déjà vu, Resonance, Reprezent and Mi-Soul, while live radio features with Toddla T, Jamie Rodigan, Lukan De Legend, Ras Kwame, Selector Radio and FUBAR add to coverage from RWD, Wordplay, THUMP, Trap Mag, CMU, Clash and Complex. GWz have also been all over the airwaves and clubs lately via their guest spot on the hyped new Dead Belly single “Ban Man Talk”.

The core GWz duo, Harry Metcalfe and Jason Bradshaw, are both proudly part of the Unit 137 Sound System family, while many will also know Bradshaw from his Jimmy Screech days which saw him tour internationally in Roots Manuva’s Banana Klan and earn acclaim for his solo LPs from RWD to The Independent and The Guardian. Metcalfe has been making solo waves too, with the “Feel feat. Bahia” single under his Sleepy Time Ghost moniker, and his huge Ghost Writerz Remix of Quantic’s “Spark It feat. Shinehead”. Showcasing a spellbinding array of styles, and blessed with appearances from Rodney P, Serocee, Jago (onlyjoe) and more, their opus ‘GWz All The Way’ is the first full LP to spring from the Sharp And Ready movement. It epitomises the ethos of SAR: a coalescing of heritage with the distinct sonic and societal markers of our time, into a New Wave, carried forward by a growing contingent of passionate artists and telling the story of the richness and fullness of UK Sound System Culture.
