Flevans - The 28th Devil

Flevans The 28th Devil
Flevans - The 28th Devil
(CD/Digital) Tru Thoughts TRUCD208, 2009-12-14

Hot on the heels of his irresistible third album, 27 Devils, which came out in May, multi-instrumentalist Flevans brings you The 28th Devil, a devilish collection of remixes, bringing the melting pot of styles and sounds, glorious songs and dancefloor bombs on 27 Devils into even more danceable, club-directed territory. With a serious level of party bang for your buck, this 13-track remixes album features reworks by the likes of dancefloor rocking label-mates Hint and Azaxx; Regal (Wiseguys/Bronx Dogs); Vono Box (Jazz & Milk); and serial collaborator, remixer and 'next-big-thing' Lack Of Afro; as well as a handful of inspired Flevans remixes of tracks by other artists including rising soul sensation Kylie Auldist. A companion piece to the 27 Devils album, this remixes collection is a perfect party record, injecting Flevans' unshakable dancefloor-directed pop/funk productions with a dose of other flavours, from deep disco to 2-step.

Press Release :
Hot on the heels of his irresistible third album, '27 Devils', which came out in May, Brighton based multi-instrumentalist Flevans brings you 'The 28th Devil', a collection of remixes bringing the melting pot of styles and sounds, glorious songs and dancefloor bombs on '27 Devils' into even more danceable, club-directed territory.

With a serious level of party bang for your buck, this 13-track companion piece to the original album features reworks by the likes of dancefloor-rocking label-mates Hint and Azaxx; Regal (Wiseguys/Bronx Dogs); Vono Box (Jazz & Milk); and serial collaborator, remixer and 'next-big-thing' Lack Of Afro; as well as a handful of inspired Flevans remixes of tracks by other artists including rising soul sensation Kylie Auldist.

The '27 Devils' album, which features the lush vocals of Sarah Scott and Shona Foster, as well as Flevans himself with a few well-placed vocal hooks, received glowing reviews and DJ reactions, praising its upbeat and idiosyncratic club beats and hook-laden songs. As soon as the '27 Devils' promos were out the door, the remixes started pouring in. With such a great array of artists injecting Flevans' unshakable dancefloor-directed pop/funk productions with a dose of other flavours, from deep disco to 2-step, 'The 28th Devil' is being released on CD to get those alternative takes on the tracks out there to the fans and DJs.

Flevans is heading off on a DJ tour of Australia alongside Lanu (aka Lance Ferguson of The Bamboos) and Kylie Auldist in early 2010, and recording a collaborative EP with Lanu while he's out there. More new Flevans material is also in the pipeline for the not too distant future. The '27 Devils' album and "Hold On" // "Hold No Water" single are out now on Tru Thoughts.

"This is one slippery conga eel of a record... You never know what is coming next, but the vibe is so good that you just go with the flow." 8/10 - Clash
"Flevans is back where he belongs, on Brighton's mighty Tru Thoughts, and boy does it sound good... all gutsy and grown-up" 8/10 - iDJ
"I REALY LOOOVE 'HOLD NO WATER' - Great African funk vibes on this little monster" - Laurent Garnier
"Full of dancefloor delighting instrumentals and glorious, hook-laden songs" - FlyGlobalMusic.com

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
