Ancient Astronauts - Heart Of The Future Mix

Ancient Astronauts - Heart Of The Future Mix
(MP3 Download) Eighteen Street Lounge, 2009-05

With a little under a month to go before ESL drops the Ancient Astronauts intergalactic masterpiece We Are To Answer on June 9th, the space dwelling duo hurl an exclusive mix towards our little green and blue planet! Entitled 'Heart of the Future,' the hour plus mix is the perfect precursor to their debut full length, and serves as an important introduction to understanding the influences of Kabanjak and Dogu. From old school hip hop legends, to new school deep beat masters, the mix skips in and out of genres lacing hints of reggae with thick slabs of funk, creating an overarching vibe of just damn good summer hanging music.

Marking a foray into new territory for ESL, the Ancient Astronauts debut album 'We Are To Answer' is a melting pot of funk, dub reggae, and pure unadulterated hip-hop. Featuring vocal collaborations with Bootie Brown and Imani of legendary hip hop group the Pharcyde, Azeem, Tippa Irie, Bajka, Phat Old Mamas, Ulf Stricker, Raashan Ahmad and Entropik, 'We Are To Answer' is a block rockin' boom-bappin' sonic tour-de-force!

Having already remixed Fort Knox Five, Up Bustle & Out, Ladybug Mecca of Digiable Planets, Zion I, and Dr. Rubberfunk, the duo spent the last year putting their cosmic production skills to use crafting their genre splicing masterpiece debut. The tracks on the album exhibit a melding of old school hip-hop, funk and dub reggae with forward-thinking flair and production technique. The end result is a stunning debut, a genre-defining album.

Speech Debelle - Freedom Of Speech
(CD/LP/Digital) Big Dada Recordings BD193, 2012-02-06

Two years since winning the 2009 Mercury Music Prize for her debut album, Speech Therapy, and having ridden a rollercoaster through life since then, Speech Debelle is ready to drop her second collection of music. Entitled Freedom of Speech, the album sees Speech turning from introspection to stand up, face and engage with the world around her, spitting confident themes of revolution and love. A first taste of the album came in the aftermath of this summer's riots, when Speech reacted immediately, leaking the track Blaze Up A Fire, (also featuring Roots ManuvaRealism), a track about political revolution written months before. Now the build-up begins to the release of Freedom of Speech in early February 2012 with the free download of the track Studio Backpack Rap. From political to musical revolution, Speech describes the track as being "all about virtual instrumentation and an ode to KwesSpeech Therapy, while showcasing just one aspect of her remarkable new album.
