After a first record released late 2011, 'Chapters', Tokyo-born, London-based musician Masaaki Yoshida a.k.a. Anchorsong is back on Tru Thoughts with a new album, 'Ceremonial', showcasing some newly found 1960s/70s afrobeat/highlife and South East Asian music influences. Blending crisp tribal percussion, burbling electronica, bass-heavy tropical workouts, soulful strings, Anchorsong's music should bring uplifting colors & spice to many downtempo/deep house sets.

Out 22nd January, ‘Ceremonial’ is the second full album on Tru Thoughts from much-feted electronic artist Anchorsong - AKA Tokyo-born, London based musician Masaaki Yoshida.

The album continues the progression of 2014’s incredibly well-received “Mawa” EP (BBE), on which this ever-curious musician first began to blend the minimalist, catchy melodic phrasing and attention-grabbing beats of his Tru Thoughts debut LP ‘Chapters’ with a newfound love for vintage African music. Influences from Orchestre Poly-Rythmo to Fela Kuti-style Afrobeat to bluesy High Life now hold sway, while Anchorsong retains the crisp production sensibility and deep, immersive arrangements that have always set his music apart and seen him gain praise and support from the likes of Huw Stephens, Gilles Peterson, Q Magazine and many others across the world.

Since his relocation to Europe in late 2007, Anchorsong has supported Bonobo, Prefuse 73, DJ Krush, Daedelus, Gonjasufi, Jaga Jazzist and more, and performed at many prestigious venues including Queen Elizabeth Hall and The Roundhouse in London. Globally recognised for his unique live shows, which many people have described as "like watching a painter drawing on a white canvas", Anchorsong was an early pioneer of the practice of creating electronic music completely live in front of the audience using a sampler (MPC2500) and a keyboard. While he mainly performs solo, he frequently augments this setup with a string quartet, for a truly spellbinding show. Having always been swept away by the atmosphere and excitement of live performance, Yoshida (who played guitar in a rock band before embarking on this solo journey) brings that same vibrant energy, warmth and sense of occasion to the world of electronica.He has also garnered an international following on YouTube, with more than 300,000 views for his performances. He found himself the subject of a new level of attention after wowing the crowds at SXSW 2009, going on to make several appearances on BBC Radio 1, with radio play from Rob Da Bank and a live Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens' In New Music We Trust show in early 2010. Having put out three successful EPs in Japan, all of which were released as double packs containing a CD and a live DVD, Anchorsong's international debut, "The Lost & Found EP" was released in 2011 on his own label, Case Study.

Snapped up by Tru Thoughts, Anchorsong released his debut album, 'Chapters', in late 2011 to support from tastemakers including Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy (XFM), Oneman and Laurent Garnier. With a hectic live schedule, a period of recording hiatus followed in which he worked on developing his sound, finding inspiration in new places including in vintage African recordings. Reinvigorated, he then returned to Japan for two years in order to fully concentrate on recording and creating. In March 2014, with a renewed musical vision, he put out the seismic “Mawa” on BBE Recordings via a limited edition clear 10” vinyl EP. Praise from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Karizma, Osunlade and Craig Smith soon flooded in.

‘Ceremonial’ brings a richly textured tapestry of outward-looking sounds, blending modern and retro music and treading new ground with tribal rhythms fitting in seamlessly with all the wizardry you would expect from a first class 21st century composer.
