01. Lanu - Dis-Information
(from 'Dis-Information' 12 inch, 2007-02-05 / Tru Thoughts TRU119)

Don't let the "Lanu, guitarist of the deep funk Australian outfit The Bamboos" tag fool you, his solo project is something else entirely, drenched into 21st century soul, broken beat, funk breaks and american jazz, appealing to both headphones and club spinning.

A-side presents "Dis-Information", a concerned reminder of the media lies revolving around some tight Moog bassline and Rhodes chords, in both extended an intrumental form. B-side starts with "Mother Earth", a broken-afro-latin soul number which sees Lance Ferguson (Lanu) teaming up with teammate Quantic and Stones Throw vocalist Aloe Blacc, pledging us to respect our home planet. The EP closes with "Don't Sleep (part 3)", a broken beat/soul jazz thing tainted with psychedelic alienish sounds.

This guy's talent and eclectism is once more proven and we were proud to announce that Lanu is preparing a mix of Australian grooves for our favorite funky podcast, ParisDJs.com - get your iPods ready!

02. Ok Ma - Bwoy Gal (Lanu Remix)

The 3rd single from UK soul burners Ok_Ma is a slice of heaviness with illicit drums that once more feature the beautiful vocals of Lea Lea Jones, (previously featured on "Sister" and "Go-Flo"). A certain headnodder that continues the Uk soul tradition of Loose Ends through Soul II Soul, Basement Jaxx and Yam Who. This is future Boogie that gets arses on the floor!

The first remix is courtesy of Lanu who has had a busy year with the release of his album with The Bamboos dropping on Tru Thoughts and his own productions getting caned everywhere from Co-op to house nights at the Cross. This remix is a killer, heavy live bassline, keys and horn section. Lanu takes the track into 80's dancefloor territory, Lea Lea showing she has the credentials to be a soul diva of tomorrow. Opolopo is the man from Sweden, and those in know rate this cat very highly. This year he has recorded for the Sick Trumpet label and has done many an illicit booty for the undergound. This mix is some mad futuristic broken hustle coming on like Bugz trapped in a Swedish whore house!

For the bonus cut we have a sick remix of 'Make Me Cry' from BBE's D'nell, which comes on like Sa-Ra stuck in Ladbroke Grove drinking a pint of Stella. It's raw, it nods to the US, but is UK all the way. Vocals come from NY Shu, who won this year's John Lennon songwriting award. Fire!

03. Amp Fiddler -

Counting the likes of Hot Chip, Jamiroquai and Omar in his legion of fans and admirers, having taught the late great Jay Dilla in the art of making beats, and a lifetime spent on the Detroit frontline with the likes of Kenny Dixon Junior for company leaves Amp Fiddler is one of the most well-connected and industrious men in soul music today.

Opening up the double a-side limited release the album opener "Faith" is given some Germanic bump from Berliners Jazzanova, complete with a firing new verse from the indomitable Miss Yolanda. On the flip, and arriving with a deft funk remix from fellow Detroit wizard Carl Craig, "Ridin" sees Amp embrace his disco side, which Craig turns into a suitably strutting, Off The Wall-esque gem.

04. Seiji - Rubbish
(from 'Disco Dimensions II EP' 12 inch, 2006-01-23 / Smash Hit Music SHMEP04)

On the topside ya got Ray Mang and Foolish Felix's aptly titled 'Disco Dementia.' Heavy percussion and a rollercoaster bassline coaxed along by bent melodics and atmospherics build to a rager crescendo. Excellent with or without drugs.

The flip kicks off with Stranger's 'Motorboy.' Dark yet gorgeous, easily one of Mr. Cook's finest efforts to date. Think New Order circa '82 minus the vocals fused with a funky Tiefschwarz sensibility. Fierce live bassline and keys courtesy of the man Jaswho... SERIOUS business.

In a rare foray into Dub' Disco territory...Seiji. Seiji of Bugz in the Attic fame, comes correct with "Rubbish". Funky, fluid basswork and chunky four on the floor replete with smoked out delays and great overall arrangement give this one MDI - that's maximum dancefloor impact.

05. Sin Palabras - Yemaya (John Beltran Remix)

John Beltran remixes of the first Yoruba 12", Sin Palabras' 'Yemaya'. This heavyweight slice of Deep Latin House featuring the Cuban group Sin Palabras complete with Afro-Cuban vocals has been totally stripped back and re-mixed by John Beltran. The track is produced by Osunlade who has been working with the band in Puerto Rico. John Beltran's mixes have been on white label for a few months and this track is set to become a classic underground house/broken beat track.

06. DJ Graham B - it's Alright Now

Regarded by many as a pioneer on the Dutch music scene DJ Graham B moved to Amsterdam in the late 80s and helped kick start the house scene there, promoting parties and radio stations, etc. He also co-founded and produced the first two albums of the ever-popular New Cool Collective . As one half of Jazz Juice, DJ Graham B has notched up some of the biggest selling singles on the Freestyle label and has carved a niche for their own style of electronic infused samba and Latin music - winning over fans such as Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff and Annie Mac along the way.

Following the huge success of his debut single "Sambamadness", Graham steps out on his own once again to deliver another dancefloor bomb. Utilising some familiar samples and a kicking hook "It's Alright Now" is a peak time crowd pleaser of epic proportions - already road tested at Messin Around and various other sessions around the country. Over on the flip, "Um Pesado Bossa" picks up where previous single "Riot In Rio" left off - samba style percussion, a funkin bass and some grooving guitar work.
