Rare interview with Fela Kuti found in charity shop in London | Comments: 0

Feal Kuti - Rare radio interview found in a charity shop
by Duncan Ballantyne, Label Manager, Soundway Records
"Having recently picked up some old reel to reel tapes at a Help the Aged shop round the corner from my house i was pretty astonished to hear this recording of Fela being interviewed in London just before he went on this major tour with Ginger Baker. Recognise the song in the background? That is the lead track on Soundway's latest album, although a version. We’re particularly fond of the delivery from the presenter but not so keen on his lack of English decorum when it comes to his opinions on Fela’s vocals. A very bizarre coincidence but a happy one and hopefully this will amuse and entertain – check the rare original version of the track on Nigeria Afrobeat Special".

Karl Hector & The Malcouns - Live at ChoiceCuts, Dublin
(free MP3 Recorded may 2009)
"This show is a recording from May 09 with our good friends Karl Hector & The Malcouns who have performed for us about 6 times now. One of the tightest collectives of musicians we have had the pleasure of welcoming to ChoiceCuts, this show will take you all over the world with some incredible rhythms, melodies and arrangements all tied together with afro-tinged funk music originating from the Southern Sahara and played by some of the tightest German funk musicians you can hear these days." Quantic - Calypos, Cumbias & Compas
(free MP3) Quantic.org, 2009-10
"A musical mix for October. So, in the constant organisation of the amounting chaos at the side of my record player, this mix was born. Some what of a ‘new arrivals’ mix, here is the best of music found recently from Trinidad, Haiti, Colombia & Africa. I’m particularly warming to calypso of late & Charanga too, from Colombia’s north coast. And it’s off to Cartagena in the north this weekend to experience nearby Palenque’s festival of Tambores, from what friends tell me, it really is a unique festival, quite looking forward to it. In the meantime, enjoy this mix of new music (some of it over 50 years old!)." (Source : quantic.org)
Souffle Continu (Paris record store) one year anniversary | Comments: 0
Tuesday, October 6 2009

Already a year since my friends and former collegues Bernard and Theo have decided to take things into their own hands, opening Souffle Continu, a specialized record store in Paris while all the big outlets were pushing the record racks into smaller places, far away from the entrance and all the digital games, equipement and stuff.
Already a year so there's an in-store party day on Saturday October 10th, 2009, from 12AM to 10 PM! Don't hesitate, if you're in Paris, come and support your local independant record stores!
